Course Content
This is a college prep course which is a chronological survey of world literature outside of the
British/American spectrum. All of our lessons will cover the Georgia Standards for World
Literature, including Listening/Speaking/Viewing. Expect to read, write, practice grammar, learn
new vocabulary, and hone your research skills in preparation for college.

Class Supplies
 Three-ring binder
 Loose-leaf college rule paper
 Blue/Black ink pens
 #2 pencils with erasers
 Flash drive for transporting documents between home and school
 Optional but strongly encouraged: a box of tissues for the class, a ream of copy paper for
your home printer

Prentice Hall Literature: World Masterpieces textbook- you will be given online access to this text
for home and a physical book for class use.

Vocabulary Workshop: Level G (Sadlier-Oxford)- If you did not pay at Fall Madness, please bring
$10 exact change or a check made payable to Pope High School this week. Our first quiz will be
Thursday, August 19.

Summer Reading
Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes by Edith Hamilton- you should have read this and
completed the assignment.

Parallel Readings
Siddhartha by Herman Hesse
The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck
A third title TBA

Writing
We will be engaging in several different types of writing, including a research paper. Like any
other major assignment you are expected to turn these in on time. Make sure your printer has ink
and paper or that you can get it to school in enough time to print. Technical issues will not be
excused as due dates will be announced well in advance.

Absence/Makeup Work
Check the blog. Makeup work for class and homework is due within five days of the absence.
Must be done outside of class. Major tests can only be made up with an excused absence. Papers
and other long-range projects must be delivered by the class period via a parent or other reliable
means.

Procedures and Expectations


-Arrive on class on time. If you are late, head to PPO and don’t be disruptive on your return.
-In all of our dealings we will strive for excellence and respect.
-Water only and it must be in a sealable container.
-Electronic devices of any kind must not be used during active learning time [99.9% of the time]
-Errands and restroom should be dealt with during lunch or between classes except for
emergencies.
-Remain seated those last few precious minutes at the end of class. If we are in the middle of
important instruction or a group activity, await my call to pack up. Do not line up at the door or
you risk my wrath.
