Recorder Permission Slip
Every year, 5th graders from across El Paso are introduced to a live classical concert from the El
Paso Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra has partnered up with the Weill Music Institute at Carnegie
Hall, in New York City, to introduce a curriculum that will allow students to perform along with the
orchestra. Students will be participating by playing soprano recorders and singing along with the
orchestra during the live concert.
SISD has a certain amount of recorders to loan to students and although they have been
cleaned, they have been used before. All recorders will be loaned out on a first come, first serve basis.
Please fill out the information below if you are interested in borrowing a recorder from SISD for your
child. Students will be required to return the recorder at the end of the course. Those students
borrowing a school recorder will be held responsible if it is lost or damaged.
If you are interested in purchasing a recorder for your child here are the following locations
where you may purchase one, they typically cost $4.00-$10.00:
*Please do not buy recorders at Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, or Dollar General as they tend to break very
easily and are not able to produce the best sound.
I am going to start teaching recorders the first week full week of September. Recorders should be
purchased by September 5th, 2017. All elementary schools in the district will be getting recorders, so
get yours as soon as possible before they run out.
