Group Work On Loading Calculation

The document discusses calculating loads for a house design with a mezzanine. It asks to: 1) Check if the mezzanine slab or beams AB and CD will fail under the prescribed dead, live, and superimposed loads based on a provided perspective drawing. 2) Draft a step-by-step guide for calculating wind and earthquake loads for residential houses per the National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP) 2010, focusing on specific methods and explaining the logic and provisions used at each step.

GROUP WORK on LOADING CALCULATION:

A. Dead Load and Live Load

Shown below is the perspective drawing of the design of a house which conforms the desired area of
the owner by providing a mezzanine in the design. (Use normal weight concrete)
The slab with a capacity of 20 KPa of the mezzanine is supported by beams in the longitudinal side.
Check if the slab will fail due to the assembly if the prescribed live load and dead load by the NSCP
also applies in the slab in addition with the superimposed load in the slab as in Figure B. (Use a
magnitude of loading for allowance for utilities twice to that of the mechanical duct). Will beams AB
and CD fail if the beams capacity is 30 kNm?

B. LAYING-OUT OF WIND AND EARTHQUAKE LOAD MANUAL

Draft a Wind Load and Earthquake Load Calculation for dummies using NSCP 2010
narrating the step-by-step procedure on how to calculate the wind loads and earthquake
loads for residential house. The procedure shall give the reader the logical idea on the formula
used by introducing each parameters in the formula (in laymans term) and how it logically
affects the magnitude of the loading. Assume that the reader is a non-CE student. Also, include
the provisions used in NSCP for each step.

Specific instructions:

For wind load calculation, focus only on Method 2 and explain why the analytical
procedure is applicable for calculating wind loads in the design of residential houses.
For earthquake load calculation, use only the STATIC FORCE PROCEDURE and focus
on Method B for determining the period (T) of the structure.
Use tables and graphs if necessary.
Use illustrations if deemed applicable in emphasizing important procedure.
