Augmentix 2008 – 2010

Lead Mechanical Design Engineer:


Augmentix has the contract to design all of Dell’s Ruggedized Laptops, the XFR series, to pass Mil-Std
810G, IP-54 and IP-65 Rain and Dust Ingress Tests, and UL-1604 for Hazardous Areas. We took Dell’s
Mother Board and LCD and designed new exteriors that allowed the units to pass 4 foot Drop Testing and
all other requirements for Mil-Std 810G.
• Design was done with Engineering team in India and all parts made by lower tier China vendors.
• Designs were done with only 2 or 3 Proto-builds before ship acceptance.
• As Lead I was responsible for all parts, tool design and testing of units.
• Designs were completed in less than 1 year’s time.

General Dynamics – C4 Systems 2007 – 2008
Mechanical Design Engineer:
Designed military communications systems of different sizes, from rack and panel systems to individual
handheld units.

Motorola Chandler, AZ
iDEN Mobile Devices 2002 – 2007
Sr. Staff Mechanical Design Engineer:
Designed ruggedized and waterproof phones for use on the Nextel System. This involved designing 2-shot
housings and sealing features along with better protection for multiple displays and sealing all controls and
outside connection receptacles. Worked closely with Manufacturing personnel to insure the designs would
be capable of fast assembly with little or no scrap.
 Designed and patented hidden snapping system for holding housings together.
 Traveled to China several times a year for “First-Off-Tool” part approval and proto-type builds.
 Released Dual-Mode phone in 11 months with the lowest return rate of any phone ever done for Nextel.

Mechanical Design Engineer:
Completed all mechanical design of 28V and 270V Power Distribution Units to go inside an automated
Howitzer/Tank. Calculated tolerance analyses for fit of all parts into the unit.
 Designed all connections both inside and out using Mil-Spec Requirements.
 Designed outside container to withstand 30G shock using Carbon filled composite material
MOTOROLA Fort Worth, TX
2-Way Messaging 1995 – 2001
Staff Mechanical Engineer:
Involved with all phases of mechanical design of the two-way pagers: LCD assembly, plastic housings, and
interconnections between PC boards, battery contacts, shielding, flexes and keypads. Calculated tolerance
analyses for fit of all parts into the unit.
 Partnered with LCD suppliers on COG problems and glitches; included travel to Asia.
 Designed housing assemblies and plastic molded parts using state-of-the-art, in-mold decorating design
guidelines and processes.
 Conducted accelerated life tests and qualifications for ship acceptance; used root cause analysis and
design for experimentation to resolve and correct failures found during testing.
 Received “Motorola Patent-of-the-Year” in 2000 for PF1500 LCD packaging patent.

CT-2/P.C.S 1989 - 1995
Senior Mechanical Engineer:
Integral part of team that designed original SILVERLINK handset, a micro-cell phone.
Responsible for LCD module, Switches, Batter Compartment, Shielding and Keypad design.
 Introduced plastic shielding to project as only mechanical engineer on cost reduction program.
 Received 4 Utility Patens and 1 Design Paten for Silverlink with Pager Capabilities.
