Section 3 - SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
A-Frame and Docking Head Assembly
The A-Frame and Docking Head Assembly are provided to deploy and recover a
Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) to and from the ocean surface. Hydraulic cylinders
Power the A-Frame assembly through the entire range of travel. The A-Frame.
assembly utilizes base mounting plates attached to the A-Frame legs. The A-
Frame/Docking Head assembly is mounted to a skid assembly.
‘A Docking Head assembly is mounted beneath the cross member of the A-Frame to
secure the vehicle during launch and/or recovery operations associated with movement
of the A-Frame. A swing frame mount allows fore and aft movement of the docking
head, which is dampened by hydraulic cylinders. A 1,524 mm (60 in.) tread diameter
sheave mounted in the docking head swing frame assembly fairleads the umbilical from
the Winch/Levelwind assembly down through the docking head assembly to the ROV.
A launch/recovery latching mechanism is used to capture the mechanical termination
mounted on top of the ROV. As the mechanical termination enters the docking head
assembly, the latching mechanism is engaged and mechanical indicators confirm a
secure latch. A bumper secured to the bottom of the docking head assembly protects
the top surface of the vehicle. The launch latch assembly is rotated by a hydraulic
motor allowing rotation of the ROV while latched
LARS Skid Assembly
A steel skid assembly supports the A-Frame/Docking Head Assembly and serves as a
base pad for launch and/or recovery of an ROV. The skid assembly is constructed of
‘A-500 Grade B steel square tubing and is equipped with drip pans covered by grating
for secure footing.
The skid assembly is equipped with a support stand for securing the A-Frame during
transport
Winch Skid Assembly (Not Supplied With This System)
An optional skid is provided for customer supplied winch system. The winch skid is
aligned and fitted into mated holes in the LARS skid during installation and bolted to the
skid. The winch skid is bolted to pad eyes welded to the deck.
