PASOLINK Maintenance Quick Reference 1
1 Introduction
1.1 Purpose
This document is designed as a quick reference guide for maintenance
service of the PASOLINK/PASOLINK+ system.
NEC Corporation
PASOLINK Maintenance Quick Reference 2
2 Maintenance Overview
2.1.1 Summary
2.1.2 Precautions
Danger: Around 43V DC power (Depends on IF cable length) is
superimposed on the center conductor of the coaxial cable
between the IDU and ODU. Connecting a measurement set may
damage that set. Touching the coaxial cable core may cause
electrical shock.

3 Preventive Maintenance
This section describes the maintenance work that should be performed on
a periodical basis in order to maintain the system at its highest quality. It
should be performed by fully qualified personnel to ensure proper
performance of the system and safety at the operation site.

a-1) Connect the PNM Terminal (PC) to the LA PORT of the IDU
using RS-232C cable. (In case on PASOLINK)
a-2) Connect the PNM Terminal (PC) to the PNMT PORT of the
IDU using RS-232C cable. (In case on PASOLINK +)

3. Check configurations
a) Check the condition setting of the IDU according to the
procedure in the PNMT user's manual.
b) Confirm if the condition setting is appropriate according to
the site inventory data.
c) The latest configuration file shall be uploaded and stored.
Also, the Equipment Configuration Parameter shall be
recorded and filed as site inventory data record.

2. Check for loose bolt connections. Make sure that all bolts and
nuts are tightened to the specified torque.
3. Rust prevention
a) Repainting should be carried out every two years to
maintain high corrosion resistance and appearance of the
antenna. However the period may change if rusting or
exfoliation occurs earlier.
b) For antenna, clean first by removing oil and dirt completely
with solvent and then washing with water. Then apply top
coat with ally alkyd enamel diffusive paint (belcoat
No.5500) or equivalent.
c) For hot dip galvanized parts of the steel structure, first
completely remove rust, dirt, etc. on the position causing
exfoliation of plating. Then apply Amercoat No.160 with a
brush or sprayer (Thickness: more than 70 microns)
manufactured by Amercoat (AMERCOAT EUROPE).

2. Check for loose bolt connections. Make sure that the jumper
coaxial cables between ODU and IDU are firmly fixed, and all
bolts and nuts are tightened.

4 Corrective Maintenance
Corrective maintenance covers fault isolation, replacement and alignment.
The fault isolation procedure describes isolating equipment-level faults.
Therefore, if an ODU or IDU is faulty, it should be replaced with a spare
and aligned. During corrective maintenance, carefully observe the
precautions given in Section 2.1.2 of this document until alignment is
completed.
5. Replacement of.

Removing
i) Turn off the POWER switch on the front panel of the
IDU.
ii) Loosen tightening rings of the IF IN/OUT (N) on the
ODU by turning them counter-clockwise.
iii) For waveguide connector type of ODU, to remove the
waveguide from the RF IN/OUT, remove the four
waveguide fixing screws using a screwdriver.
Note: Be careful not to damage the O-ring between
the waveguide and ODU.
iv) Lessen four screws (M6) on the ODU.
v) Remove the ODU from mounting bracket.
vi) Replace ODU with a spare, taking care when handling
the waveguide contact surface.
Remounting
vii) When H polarization is required, rotate the ODU so as
to go up the plate marked with H.
viii) When V polarization is required, rotate the ODU so as
to go up the plate marked with V.
ix) Confirm if the O-ring is to be placed in the original
position properly.
x) Put new ODU on the mounting bracket and align the
bolts of the ODU with the bolt holes of the mounting
bracket.

ODU
e) Referring to the procedure for condition setting of ODU and
IDU described in the equipment instruction manual, perform
radio frequency and TX output power setting for the ODU.
IDU
f) Referring to the procedure for condition setting of ODU and
IDU described in the equipment instruction manual, perform
each item setting for the IDU.
g) Connect the PNMT to the LA PORT of the IDU using an RS-
232C cable. (PASOLINK)
