This document provides an example problem for determining the maximum bending moment, deflection, and stress in a concrete beam supported by an elastic foundation. The beam has a width of 1.2m, depth of 0.25m, and length of 12m. Given the modulus of subgrade reaction and Young's modulus of the beam, the calculations show that the maximum bending moment is -98.09 kN.m at the center, the maximum deflection is 4.32mm at the center, and the maximum stress is -7.8472 N/mm^2 at the center.

BEAM ON ELASTIC FOUNDATION EXAMPLE

A uniform strip concrete footing, has a depth of 0.25 m, a width of 1.2 m, and
a length of 12 m, supports the column loads on Winkler foundation as shown in
figure.
The modules of subgrade reaction has a value of 13 N/mm2 and Young's
modules for the beam has an average value of ( E = 40 kN/mm2 ) .
Determine the maximum value of the bending moment in the footing .
Find the maximum deflection and max stress at the center of the beam .
