Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is Theodore Kalogeropoulos and I am a postgraduate student in


Computer Technologies & Information Systems at Ionion University.

I am writing this letter to express my strong motivation for the Internship


and PhD position in machine learning for multimodal engagement
analysis in Human-Robot Interactions (HRI).

My particular interests in computer science and machine learning


originated since I started my first degree in computer science and
information Technology of the Educational Institute of West Macedonia.
During my tenure, I developed commercial websites for local businesses,
which are now publicly available in the web. While working on these
websites, I found very interesting the use of machine learning in web
application development. For example "an ecommerce application can
use machine learning to monitor and understand customer conversation
related to a product ".

My interest in machine learning has been increased through my master’s


course in "Artificial Intelligence" at Ionio University, during which, I
learned some machine-learning algorithms and later on implemented a
small group project.

In my Curriculum Vitae (CV) you can see that I possess developer skills.
As an Informatics Engineering graduate I have already developed skills in
programming. However, for career in machine learning I would need to
further develop my skills and a PhD in machine learning for multimodal
engagement analysis in human-robot interactions will greatly contribute
to such development in skills and knowledge, which is a requirement for
this evolving area. I firmly believe that a PhD position at Telecom
ParisTech is an excellent choice for myself, and I think this is a great
chance for me to expand my knowledge in this area, pursue my passion
and contribute to the scientific community.
