Under the Renewable Energy Act of 2008, the Philippine Energy Regulatory
Commission can "(guarantee) fixed rate per kilowatt-hour – the FIT rates – for
power producers harnessing renewable energy under the FIT system."In
February 2015, the ERC agreed to give a FIT rate of P8.53 per kilowatt hour for
20 years to the Burgos Wind Farm of the Energy Development Corporation.
Each wind turbine has a rated power of 3 MW, cut in speed of 3.5 m/s, rated
speed of 15 m/s, cut out speed of 25 m/s, re-cut in speed of 20 m/s and the
operating temperature range of 20 degree Celsius to 40 degree Celsius. These
are the generator specifications of each wind turbine located in the Burgos Wind
Farm, the generator type is a 4 pole doubly fed generator, a swept area of 6362
m^2, rated output of 3000 kW, operational parameters of 60 Hz, 1000 V, a
gearbox of 2 planetary and 1 helical stage and a microprocessor- based control
of all the turbine functions, with monitoring and control capabilities.
The power from the substation is sent to the NGCP Laoag substation. Aside
from being the largest wind farm in the Philippines, it also holds the record of
being the largest win farm in Southeast Asia. It has a site area of 600 hectares
and produces an annual output of 233 GWh.
