 I want to have successful management when it comes to my classroom, which means I want to have
specific strategies to keep students learning and less down time to start acting up and fooling
around. For example, If students are done with an assignment early they will be directed to either
choosing a new reading book or continue reading the one they have now. I want my classroom to be
a learning environment without, daily chaos. I will have a strategic plan every single day. Students
like knowing what is coming next, so our daily schedule will be posted for students to see. This will
help eliminate interruptions and questions not related to learning. Students like being involved in
instruction. I will give the students choices during instruction, which helps keep students engaged
and active in learning.
 There will be a zero-tolerance policy implemented in my classroom, and discipline will be reinforced
for bad behavior. I will have a positive discipline strategy that increases student’s desirable behavior
to teach the student rather than punish him/her. My positive discipline strategy will help students
want to succeed rather than quit. The first time a student’s needs disciplined they will be given a
verbal warning. If the behavior continues the students will get an in-class time out/loss of dojo
points (school wide reward system). The third time will consist of a red slip and letter sent home for
parent to sign. If the student has gotten four warning and has still yet to follow directions and
continues to act out then they will be sent to the office.

Support from Theories/Researchers (minimum of 2)

1. Benjamin Bloom created a theory called Bloom’s Taxonomy. This theory consisted of 6 different
levels, and each level corresponded with one another to structure learning objectives.
Remembering, Understanding, Applying, Analyzing, Evaluating, and Creating are what the Bloom’s
Taxonomy consist of. Bloom’s way of explaining his theory of 6 steps of learning is that “Before you
 can understand a concept, you must remember it. To apply a concept, you must first understand it.
In order to evaluate a process, you must have analyzed it. To create an accurate conclusion, you
must have completed a thorough evaluation. I really like Mr. Bloom’s process and I will have this
theory posted in my room for students to see.
2. Howard Gardner created a theory called the theory of multiple intelligences. I think this is a great
theory because it helps students and teachers categorize into how students learn best. There are so
many ways to learn and some often get looked over. I have had a teacher who only taught one way
because that is the way she learned best, therefore, there were students who did not do well in the
class. There are 7 different intelligences of how students can learn best. I would like for my students
to take this class at the beginning of the school year so when it comes times to assign groups I can
place students with other students that learn the same way they do.

Welcome Students!
My name is Mrs. Cline and I am going to be your kindergarten teacher 2017-2018 school year. Our
classroom is located directly in the back of the cafeteria room number 106. This is going to be an exciting
year for all of us as we are going to be learning many new things. Throughout the year we will learn about
adding numbers 1 through 10, counting to 100, phonics, reading short stories, segmenting and blending
phonemes, and much more! This is just some of the fun activities we will be accomplishing throughout the
school year! We will be going on many fun educational field trips during the school year, and permission
forms will be sent when those times come.

As we approach the first day of school I will be waiting in bus hall for everyone and then we will make our
way to the cafeteria for breakfast as a class! I will be smiling brightly as I get to meet all my new students! I
am looking forward to meeting every one of you and watching you learn and grow throughout our school
year together!

Letter of Introduction to Parents (bio, things planned for the year, description of discipline plan,
important dates, and reminders)

Hello Parents/Guardians,

My name is Abigail Cline and I am the kindergarten teacher here at Alderson Elementary School. This is my
first year as a kindergarten teacher so I am excited to go through this experience with you together! I
recently graduated from Bluefield State College with my elementary education degree.

Every Friday we will have a spelling quiz with the word list given out every Monday of the beginning of that
week. Just a reminder, there will not be school September 5 th, as that is Labor Day. I will send home a 2017-
2018 academic calendar with every 2-hour delays, 2-hour early dismissals, and no school days. There is a
paper in the front that will need to be signed and returned by your student so I know you have received the
academic calendar.

I am very hands on learner, therefore I would like to take time to do a lot of hands on activities with my
students throughout the school year. I will be sending a paper home with your students with a list of dates
and times of our activities we will be conducting in case anyone would like to come volunteer. We will be
doing activities like the 100th day of school, where we will have a bunch of learning games and stations for
students to participate in. There will be a paper sign-up sheet closer to this event where parents/guardians
can sign up to help if they would like to join the fun.

We will have a stop light reward system in our classroom. Students who are following the rules, listening to
myself and other teachers, and are kind to others will get placed under the green light. Every week, whoever
is under the green light will get a trip to the treasure box where they will be able to choose between a new
pencil, eraser, gripper, sticker, etc. These students are being rewarded for their excellent behavior. Students
who stay in the yellow light for the week will not get a trip to the treasure box by they will not be disciplined
either. I will talk to these students and encourage they try a little harder so next week they are able to get a
prize! The students on the red light will have 4 warnings to bring their clip up to green or yellow. The first
time they will be given a verbal warning, if the clip still hasn’t moved the students will get an in-class time
out. The third time will be a letter sent home for parent to read and sign. If the student has gotten four
warnings to bring their clip up and are still not following directions and acting out then they will be sent to
the office.

I am looking forward to having all my students together in class and ready to begin learning with them

Arrival /Dismissal Procedures
 When students arrive to school in the morning they will be asked to sit in buss hall (located in the
gym) with all the other students until I dismiss to go to the cafeteria for breakfast. There will be
teachers monitoring the gym every morning in case a student has any questions or needs help. Every
morning when students arrive to the classroom they will be asked to put their things away, turn in
their folder where I check for parent notes, etc. and sign in with their paper clip to show attendance.
When the students are done they will be able to get their reading box and have a spot around the
room. I will wait until everyone has their things turned in and then students will have a spot on their
assigned spot on the carpet to begin our day.
 I will dismiss students by who has their work area cleaned and are sitting in their chair being quiet.
This is very helpful to me because I can easily spot the students who are paying attention and ready
to go home. Students who have papers or pencils on their desk and do not have their backpack or
are not sitting quietly will not be chosen to be dismissed until they have done so. If a student gets
called for dismissal during class time they will need to put all their belongings away and quietly get
their bookbag ready. I will briefly gather any homework if there would be any assigned after they
left.
Tardy/Absence Procedure
 For students who have arrived tardy will be asked to quietly enter the room, turn in their folder and
put their things away, and join us on the carpet or desks and jump into instruction. Students who are
absent from class will get their missed work from the absence folder located on the wall. I will show
the students at the beginning of the year where the folder will be located so when they are ever
absent they will know where to get their missing work. This work should be completed and returned
the following day.
Homework Procedure
 Homework is due the following day the assignment was assigned. I know this is kindergarten and
they will not have homework often, some days homework will be assigned to do with a
parent/guardian and a signature is to be written in the top right-hand corner. This helps me
recognize if there may be a pattern of any students/parents not helping with homework. These
students need further assistance if this is the case. The day homework is due, it will need to be
placed in the classroom organizers section of the room. Every Friday there will be a spelling test, so
daily homework that does not get turned in is students will study and practice their vocabulary
words to prepare themselves for the quiz every Friday.
Procedures for Getting Students’ Attention/Getting Teacher’s Attention
 I will use the three-finger method for wanting to grasp my student’s attention when they are getting
too loud or if they were given a few minutes to talk quietly. I will hold up three fingers and wait for
all my students also hold up theirs as well. Raising my three fingers is telling my students to stop,
look, and listen to the teacher. I will not try and talk over students and I will not yell at them just to
get their attention. If I see students continuing to talk after they see other students holding up their
fingers their clip will be moves down on the stop light sign. If a student needs to get my attention
they need to quietly raise their hand until I call on them. I may be working with another student and
are not able to get to them right away, but I will get to them as soon as possible. Students are not to
interrupt me or have their hand raised waiving it through the air. Unless it is an absolute emergency,
students will need to stay seated and quietly keep their hand raised until I am able to get to them.
Lining Up /Hallway / Restroom Procedures
 I will use procedures for lining up for the restroom, lunch, recess, etc. by using the color method.
Each day I will chose a new color and students wearing that color will get to line up first to leave the
classroom. For example, “If you’re wearing a blue shirt you may go stand in a single file line by the
door. If you are wearing a white shirt you may line up behind them”. If I see students arguing over
who gets to be in front of another or not standing quietly they will be asked to sit down until every
student is in line, then they will go to the very back. Lining up is not a competition and if students are
not able to stand quietly then they will be last in line for that day.
Bullying Procedures for Student as Victim and as Bystander
 Bullying is not tolerated in my classroom nor the school systems. If students are a victim of bullying
or are a bystander I want students to be able to tell/talk to me about it. I will have a bully box
located on my desk in the classroom and students will be able to write a note and put it in the box if
they have seen or heard something they need to talk about. At the beginning of the school year I will
show the students the box and where it is located and let them know what it is to be used for. I will
also tell the students that their names will not be given out to other students so they will feel more
comfortable talking to me about problems that may be occurring.
Classroom Rules/Discipline: Include at least 3-5 rules, rewards, consequences, type of system, and
accountability component.
 Classroom Rules will be made up by the students and myself. The main rules I want the students to
name or I will list myself are:
1. Treat others the way you want to be treated.
2. Follow directions.
3. Listen quietly when others are speaking.
4. Keep the classroom clean.
5. Keep hands, feet, and other objects to yourself.
6. Always try your best.
7. Come to class prepared to learn.
Students who follow these directions will get put onto the stop light reward system. Students will all start
out on yellow. Students who follow directions and do good deeds in and out of the classroom will get
moved up to green. If students do not follow directions or are not listening well to me they will get taken
down top. If students stay in green for one week they will get a reward from the treasure box, which will
consist of new pencils, stickers, erasers, grippers, or one piece of candy. Students who stay in yellow for one
week will not get disciplined nor will they get a trip to the treasure box for good behavior. The students who
do not move from the red will have 4 opportunities to bring their clip on the stop light up. The first time
they will be given a verbal warning, if the clip still hasn’t moved the students will get an in-class time out.
The third time will be a letter sent home for parent to read and sign. If the student has gotten four warnings
to bring their clip up and are still not following directions and acting out then they will be sent to the office. I
will take role every day to keep track of who and who is not in my classroom during class time. This is
important because I do not want my students constantly late or missing class.

 As you walk into the classroom coat racks and cubby storage bins are offered for students to put away their
belongings. This will help the classroom stay neat and organized and not a tripping hazard if an emergency
were to ever occur.
 Computer stations are set up for students to play learning games when allowed and to take the accelerated
readers tests after they have finished reading their book.
 There is a sink located in the corner of the classroom for many things. Students during activities may need to
wash their hands, I could be doing an activity where I would need some water and I would not have to leave
my classroom unattended while I would go to the bathroom.
 The Art and Sensory table is for students to paint, draw, color, or to play on while we have free time. This
station is helpful for students who are working on their coloring skills or are just wanting to be crafty.
 The Classroom Library is a small area of books students will be able to pick from to read in or out of the
classroom. After students have finished their accelerated readers test they can go into the classroom library
and choose a new book.
 Stem and Manipulatives section is where I will gather students for interaction among one another. For
example, in today’s class we will be reviewing colors, so in the stem and manipulatives section I will have
playdoh set-up for students to have time to play while talking to other students about colors.
 Classroom Organizers are where I will place students work, graded papers, ungraded papers, artwork from
the students, any type of folders for worksheets I will need, etc. If students create a painting during free play
and it needs to dry, they will be able to pick it up on the classroom organizer before they leave to go home for
the day.
 The Teacher’s Desk is where I will briefly sit throughout the day. My planner and agenda for the day will my
placed on my desk along with extra materials such as worksheets I have prepared for the current week.
 Student’s Tables are where the students will sit throughout the day when they are in the classroom. They will
be placed in assigned seating given by me.
 Whiteboards will be used to show the current days date along with the daily agenda such as the bell ringer,
lunch time, recess, music, gym, and dismissal. The Projector Screens are used when I need to show the
students something from the computer.

First Day Script

Before the First Day I will decorate the classroom as a jungle theme. I will prepare the bulletin
board and monthly calendar using zebra print boarders to stand out to the students. I will have
the classroom organizers prepared with all the hand out papers that are required for parents to
sign for the school as well as the student and parent welcome letters. I will create a seating
chart for the students and a sticker at their spot with their name on it. As each student enters
the room, they will put their things away and find their sticker; that is where they will sit. After
a week of instruction, I will place a name tag on the desk to make that seat permanent for that
student. I do not want to do this prior to the first day of school because I may want to make
some changes after a few days of seeing the students interact.
8:00-8:30 We will begin in the cafeteria for breakfast and then go to the room. Students will
have their name on a specific spot on the racks located beside the door and that is where they
will hang their backpack and jackets daily. There will be coloring books with crayons, markers,
and stickers on the table for students to be able to color. Students will be able to look for their
name on a sticker and sit at the desk. I will be standing at the door and walking around the
classroom smiling and greeting my students and their parents making sure there are no
questions on the first day for both student and parent/guardian.
8:30-9:00 We will all take a seat at the student tables and introduce ourselves to the class. We
will go over the classroom rules, which are posted on the wall in the class and talk about how to
raise your hand if you have questions as well as the procedure for then I am trying to get the
student’s attention. During this time, I will go over the discipline plan with the students and
show them the stop light sign.

9:00-9:15 Students will practice walking through the cafeteria in a straight line. I will talk to the
students about my expectations of how I expect them to act in line.
9:15-9:25 Bathroom Break
9:25-9:45 We will go outside to the playground and show students the boundaries of where
they can play. I will then show them the correct way to play on the equipment. Ensure students
understand the importance of playground safety. I will let them play for a few minutes then call
for the students line up as a drill to see how well they remember after practicing.
9:45-10:30 I will let the students explore the classroom. Kids love to play with new toys and
explore their new classroom. During this time, I will monitor the students playing as well as
making sure every student has their lunch or if they are heating hot lunch.
10:30-11:00 I will play the clean-up song as students get the room back to the way they found
it, meaning all the toys are put away in their correct location. After students have arrived back
into their seats and settled down we will practice once more how to line up in the classroom.
11:00-12:00 During this time, students will eat lunch and go outside for recess. If it happens to
be raining outside during this time we will go back to the classroom and I will give students a
coloring page and they will have access to markers and crayons at their seat.
12:00-12:45 As a class, we will talk about packing up for the day- I think it is important to do it
during this time because when they are coming back from their extra classes it will be about
time to get dismissed to go home and I do not want the students rushing and forgetting things.
We will line up and wait for the librarian to come to the classroom and get them to go to the
library.
12:45-1:15 During this time the librarian will have the students in the library choosing a book of
their reading level. This is a great time for the students because they are still learning but they
are with another teacher where rules and procedures will be very similar.
1:30-2:15 During this time students have rest time. A rest map will be provided, and I will have
a specific spot for each student to lay.
2:15-2:45 Bathroom Break/Snack Time
2:45-3:00 Students will gather their belongings and wait to be dismissed-with the help from
me- to get to their correct location to go home for the day.

Management Plan Reflection

I really enjoyed writing my classroom management plan. I feel like it truly helped me
acquire a sense of reality and think about all of the real-life scenarios I will be put in as a
teacher. Since I have been in the classroom during observations and into student
teaching, my views on things as an educator have slightly changed since writing my
management plan, therefore I did some editing! I have learned new management
techniques I implemented. In my opinion, writing the classroom management plan was
a great assignment for future teachers who have not yet been in the classroom a lot
because it helps get a sense of how you think you are going to be as a teacher, verses
getting to actually be in the classroom and having a completely different perspective on
things.
