up and functionality of how I would like my future classroom to be. The purpose of my portfolio
2
is to set up a rough draft of a variety of helpful tools and preparation skills that will help me
prepare for entering a classroom. My CMP portfolio is directed to and focusing more on how I
would construct a plan for a kindergarten classroom. I attend to build my plan covering all
content areas in the specific grade levels I’ve chosen to focus on. By constructing my own
beliefs and ideas overall from what I have learned in Classroom Management will help me
gather my ideas and formulate classroom choices. After completing my CMP my ultimate goal is
to construct a plan and vision that will benefit, support and encourage my future students and I in
the classroom. This project means a lot to me as a future educator, I want to learn and absorb as
much information as I can that will allow me to build a strong teacher foundation. As I develop
my plan, I want to take away skills that will help me become a strong educator, so I can provide
the best skills and knowledge for students to grow and success in the classroom.
My philosophy as a future educator is to work toward and accomplish my goal by ensuring and
building a positive classroom environment for my students to feel safe and confident to learn and
grow successfully as learners. The time that I’ve spent gaining and gathering new insights and
knowledge throughout my journey in college has strengthen my passion each day. I want to one
day step into a classroom and share my knowledge and skills to young learners, I inspire to help
students grow, develop and master content in all subjects to push forwards to the next grade
level. I want my future students to know that I understand each and every student’s learning
styles and needs, growing up I struggled with a learning disability. And I want to give each

To parent or parent(s):
Parent Letter 6
My name is Karlie Holtwick and I am thrilled to be your child’s Kindergarten Teacher for the
2021-2022 school year! I find the importance of building strong relationships for you to get
know me! I am a graduate from the University of Houston, I love spending time with my
husband and our dog on the weekends. We love to spend our time outside playing and taking
walks around the neighborhood lake. This year I anticipate and plan to incorporate fun
educational activites that will promote engagement in all subjects! My passion lies in molding
and educating students to grow and be the best learners they can be!
For this upcoming school year, we will initiate and start working on phonic development,
letter and writing basic in the classroom. My main goal is for the students to focus on identifying
letters and sounds in reading and writing. Then throughout the year my focus for the students
will roll into connecting previous learned knowledge of phonics into story writing and reading. I
will send out a short questionnaire during the first week of school to know where your child’s
reading and spelling levels lie. Please send the questionnaire to school with your child on the
second week. I would really like to see where your child’s progression will start within the
development in the classroom!
I am a huge advocate for parent- teacher communication, I will always make it a priority to
check my email and make time for parent conferences when available.
My schedule is as follows:
Monday: 7:45 – 8:00 am
Tuesday: 7:45 – 7:50 am
Wednesday: 12:00 – 12:35pm
Thursday: 12:00 – 12:45 pm
Friday: 6:30– 7:45am & 2:45 – 4:30 pm
On Mondays and Tuesdays, I will be available before class begins respond to emails. I always
make an effort to respond promptly within a few hours that same day. On Wednesdays and
Thursdays, I prefer for parents to do walk-ins when the students are outside at recess, I am
flexible with any time during the time frame listed. Friday is the only day that I am able to stay
after school for any questions regarding the week or upcoming week. Please take this schedule
into consideration if you plan to meet with me in the future. I am here to answer any questions or
concerns regarding your students progress in the classroom! Please do not hesitate to call me or
email me as well during the day. I am looking forward to meeting each of you, happy learning!

Selfie-Portraits 7
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/356417758006816066/
Selfie- Portraits is a fun and important activity for student to show their creative side by drawing a
picture of themselves. Students are given the freedom and choice of drawing and coloring a portrait that
illustrates who they are on the first day of school! I would like to include this activity in my classroom on
the Friday day of school because I find that it highlights student’s choice of creative expression.
“Find a Friend” Game 8
https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Back-to-School-Kindergarten-1273683
“Find a Friend” Game is an activity that is designed for students to pair with a partner and share
similarities and differences. I am a strong advocate in promoting students to build strong
communication skills inside and outside the classroom. I think this activity would work great in
my classroom, because it gives the students a chance to get to know one another by learning
others interest.

Classroom Seating Chart 10
https://www.boredteachers.com/classroom-ideas/16-awesome-flexible-seating-classrooms-thatll-blow-
your-teacher-mind
One of my goals in the classroom is to establish and build a sense of flexibility by differentiating
unique seating options. I would arrange the seating chart to randomize students to sit with new
classmates every two weeks. To do so, I would include yoga balls, stools, pillows, and crates as
seats instead of the plastic chairs that are provided by the school. I want my future classroom to
feel like “home”, I want students to walk in everyday and feel safe to learn! I would add lamps,
couches and plants to make the classroom feel like a community.
Greet the Teacher! 11
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/215680269624946056/?lp=true
“Greet the Teacher” is a unique and personal teacher- student greeting that students are given the
freedom of their choice to choose which greeting they want to share with the teacher each day.
The classroom should be a safe place to learn and everyone should feel accepted! I personally
like this approach to greeting each individual student in different ways before the day starts.

Classroom Procedure List 13
1. Entering the class with “Greet the Teacher”
9. Hallway manners
11. Cleaning up
https://www.pinterest.com/misswiss30/classroom-hand-signals/?lp=true
Helpful Hand Signals can provide silent quick non-verbal signals to the teacher throughout the
day particularly during student work. Signals can indicate different purposeful meaning that
eliminate potential disruptions during class. I find the use of hand signals to be highly beneficial
in my future classroom, it is great way for teachers to address questions quietly.
Classroom Jobs/Managers 15
https://newvitruvian.com/explore/job-clipart-kindergarten-classroom/
Students inspire to gain responsibility skills in the classroom, assigning classroom managers/ job
duties is a way to promote students’ responsibility and ownership. To ensure that all students in
the classroom participate and equally partake in a “duty”, rotating and calling out a new student
each day will allow fairness. I intend to implement this strategy in my future classroom to give
all students a task and job for a day!
Morning Tubs (Genius Hour) 16
https://brownbagteacher.com/a-1st-grade-morning-work-alternative/
Incorporating the use of acquiring students to play and exercise their sensory skills in the
morning before instruction time gears their brains for learning! Also, I have chosen this
particular procedure because in my observations I noticed the activities were geared more
towards student interest and certain tubs leaned more towards hands on learning.

Discipline System

Rules & Expectations 18
https://www.solvingbehaviour.com/classroom
Cool Down Corners provide a safe and quiet secluded corner of the room for students whom are
upset or sad to have time to relax. Also, in other cases if a student is misbehaving during an
activity or continuously disrupting during a lesson. The teacher can decide to send the student to
take a break and think if their actions. I would incorporate the corner because I agree with the
strategy, giving different alternatives to correct misbehavior can be beneficial.
Traffic Light 20
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/32017847327851333/?lp=true
The Traffic Light approach can help students visually monitor their misbehavior during the day.
By using this technique, students are aware at all times where their clothes pin is in correlation to
the traffic lights. I particularly like this use of discipline, the awareness and level of progression
up or down the chart can help the teacher know exactly the behavior level.
Think Sheet 21
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/334251603584203406/?lp=true
Think Sheets are purposeful for students to analyze and understand the negative behavior they’ve
displayed inside or outside of the classroom. The Sheets go into great specific detail of allowing
the student to think of what they have done and asks them to identify a way to fix their behavior.
I believe this would be a good tool to use as a discipline strategy in my future classroom.

Positive Desk Comments 23
http://www.applesandabcs.com/2017/05/testing-week-with-expo-markers.html
Before the school day begins, teachers can leave short positive inspirational notes on each
student’s desk with Expo markers! Students should always feel confident in their learning, and
when teachers notice and take time to remind students how well their doing is special! I find that
it is always neat to remember to motivate students to encourage their growth mindset. I would
incorporate this kind motivational tip in my classroom to help my students grow!
Treasure Box 24
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/498281146254258688/
Deciding to implement a treasure box in the classroom for rewarding positive behavior can
motivate students to always try their best in school and can minimize misbehavior. I would
defiantly include this motivational addition to my classroom, growing up I always looked
forward to being chosen to pick a prize!

Go Noodle (Brain Breaks) 26
https://www.amazon.com/Hello-GoNoodle-Champs/dp/B07749BLBG
Go Noodle is an educational video website that attains age appropriate fun educational videos,
that entertain and engage students learning. Also, the website provides fun high energy dancing
songs that students dance too during brain breaks. During a lesson, teachers can only hold young
student’s attention span for a brief amount of time. I would incorporate brain breaks through the
day for students to get up and stretch and dance to Go Noodle videos to keep students engaged.
Gallery Walk 27
https://stephenschildrensschool.com/2018/09/04/studio-time-in-preschool/
A Gallery Walk can promote and engage students to walk around the classroom and review other
students work done in the classroom. Students are proud of their finished work and deserve to
show off what they’ve worked so hard on! I would implement and incorporate a designated
Gallery Wall area in my classroom for students to assess and gain new insights of other students
work.
