Foam Calculation: Page 1 of 3

The document calculates the foam requirements for a generator room measuring 8.92m by 7.87m with a total area of 70.2 square meters. Using the NFPA application area rate of 6.5 liters per minute per square meter, the foam solution requirement is calculated as 456 liters per minute or 120 gallons per minute. With a 3% foam mixing ratio, 116 gallons per minute of water and 3.5 gallons per minute of foam agent are required. A bladder tank with a capacity of 140 gallons would be sufficient for the 40 minute time duration. An 80mm deluge valve and pressure proportioner with the appropriate flow rate ranges are recommended.

SYSTEM CALCULATIONS

DATA ROOM:-

Room name : generator room

Length = 8.92 m
Width = 7.87 m
Total area = W * D
= 8.92 * 7.87 = 70.2 m2

From NFPA – 11 ( table for application area rate )

Application area rate = 6.50 lt / min . m2

Q (foam solution req.) = area * app. Area rate

= 70.2 * 6.50
= 456 lt / min
= 27.4 m3 / hr
= 120 gpm
Mixing ratio = 3 %
Q (Water req.) = Q (foam solution req.) * 97 %
= 120 gpm * 97 %
= 116 gpm

Q (foam req.) = Q (foam solution req.) * 3 %

= 120 gpm * 3 %
= 3.5 gpm

Time duration = 40 min

Bladder Tank Capacity = 3.5 gpm * 40 min

= 140 gallons

Deluge valve size 80 mm shield model

Capacity range = (130 gpm – 480 gpm)

Pressure Proportioner 80 mm Ansul model

Capacity range = (72 gpm – 790 gpm)
