Concrete Mix Specs

The document provides specifications for different classes of concrete mixtures to be used in construction projects. Class A concrete has the highest strength and is used for heavily reinforced structures. It requires a minimum compressive strength of 3,000 psi. Class B concrete has lower cement content and strength requirements and is used for less reinforced structures like footings. The document also provides sample computations for estimating concrete quantities for a foundation, as well as specifications for form removal times, recommended slumps, and aggregate grading requirements.

Sample Computations

Work description: Concrete works

Structure: Foundation

Quantity: 180 cu. m.

Problem: Determine the quantity for cement, fine and coarse aggregates and water.

Solution:

* For Class B mixture for rounded

a. Quantity of cement, QC
QC = 8 x 180 = 1,440 bags

b. Quantity of fine aggregates, QFA

QFA = (0.45 cu. m. + 0.10 waste per cu. m.) x 180 = 99 cu. m.

c. Quantity of coarse aggregates, QCA

QFA = (0.82 cu. m. + 0.05 waste per cu. m.) x 180 = 156.6 cu. m.

d. Quantity of water, QW
QW = 26 x 180 = 4, 680 L

Number of CHB = area x 12.5 x 1.05 (breakage)

Number of Cement (bags)

4” CHB = area x 12.5 / 32
6” CHB = area x 12.5 / 14
8” CHB = area x 12.5 / 10

Quantity of Sand (cu. m.) = bags of cement x 0.80

Vertical Horizontal LM/SM

0.60 0.60 3.6
0.80 0.80 3.2
0.80 1.00 2.8
1.00 1.00 2.4
1.00 1.20 2.3

Sample Computations

Work description: Masonry works

Type of blocks: 6” CHB
Quantity: 238 sq. m.
Rebars: 0.80 m. x 0.80 m.
Problem: Compute quantity of sand, rebars and CHB

Solution:

a. Quantity of sand for 6” CHB

Cement (bags) = 238 x 12.5 / 14 = 212.5 say 213 bags
Sand (cu. m.) = 213 x 0.08 = 17.04 say 17.5 cu. m.

b. Quantity of rebars for 0.80 m. x 0.80 m.; LM/SM = 3.2

Length of bar = 238 x 3.2 = 761.6 say 762 m.
No. of bars = 762 m. x 1 bar / 6 m. = 127 pcs of 6 m. rebars

c. Number of 6” CHB
CHB (pcs) = 238 x 12.5 x 1.05 = 3,123.75 say 3,124 pcs
