To Determine The Coefficient of Discharge For Rectangular Notch

The document describes an experiment to determine the coefficient of discharge for a rectangular notch. The experiment involves measuring the time it takes to fill a measuring tank with water flowing through a rectangular notch at different water heights. The theoretical and actual discharges are then calculated and used to find the coefficient of discharge, which is the ratio of actual to theoretical discharge. The results show the coefficient of discharge varies between 0.64 and 0.83 depending on the water height, with the highest actual discharge observed at the greatest tested height of 4.5cm.

EXPERIMENT No: 07

TITLE:

“To Determine the Coefficient of Discharge for Rectangular Notch”

INTRODUCTION:
Investigate the discharge-head characteristics of a rectangular notch. The discharge-coefficient (also
known as coefficient of discharge) is the ratio of the actual discharge to the theoretical discharge.
The rectangular weir is the most commonly used thin plate weir. Weirs are typically installed in open
channels such as streams to determine discharge. is known as sill or crest of the notch and the sheet of
liquid flowing over a notch (or a weir) is known as nape or vein.

OBJECTIVE:
To Determine The Coefficient Of Discharge For Rectangular Notch.

PROCEDURE:
 Determine the volumetric capacity of measuring tank.
 Allow the contact discharge to flow through the channel.
 Determine the breath and height of rectangular notch.
 Note the time to fill the measuring tank.
 Repeat the experiment for different heads of water.

DISSCUSSION:
 In column theoretical discharge is in (cm3/sec)
 In column actual discharge is in (cm3/sec).
 In column coefficient of discharge is which is obtain by Cd.
CONCLUSION:
 At height 4.5cm the Qth is maximum .
 At 6.5sec value of Qac is minimum .
