b. Give balanced equations for thermal decomposition of – [5]
i. Lead carbonate iv. Calcium hydroxide
ii. Lead nitrate v. Sodium nitrate
iii. Mercury[II]oxide
c. Balance the following important equations: [5]
i. KMnO4 + HCl KCl + MnCl2 + H2O + Cl2
ii. Ca(HCO3)2 + HNO3 Ca(NO3)2 + H2O + CO2
iii. ZnS + O2 ZnO + SO2
iv. FeSO4 + NaOH Na2SO4 + Fe(OH)2
v. NH3 + CuO Cu + H2O + N2
d. Write the formula of the following compounds [5]
i. Copper[II]nitrate iv. Sodium plumbite
ii. Zinc sulphite v. Aluminium sulphate

a. Explain the meaning of the term compound. Also state the characteristics of the compound with
respect to the compound H2O (water). [3]
b. Calculate the percentage composition of Nitrogen in Calcium nitrate (Ca = 40, N = 14, O = 16)

i. Two elements – one of which is neutral gas and other a yellow non-metal

b. Convert- (i)nitrogen to ammonia and (ii)hydrogen to hydrogen chloride – by direct combination.[2]
