The document summarizes a Year 4 physical science lesson on measuring volume. The 60-minute lesson focuses on calculating the volume of regular and irregular solids using water displacement and formulas. Students work in groups to measure the volume of objects like cubes, marbles, and stones using measuring cylinders and beakers. They then present their findings and discuss the standard metric units for volume. The goal is for students to gain skills in measurement, observation, and applying the concept of volume.

Subject : Science

Class : Year 4

Date : 12 October 2016

Theme /Topic : Physical Science / Measurement

Time : 10.20am – 11.20am (60 min)

Content Standard : 6.5 Application the concept of volume

Learning Standard : Pupils should be able to;

6.5.1 Calculate the volume of regular-shaped solids such as cube by using

wáter displacement method and using formula.

6.5.2 Calculate the volumen of irregular-shaped solids by using wáter

displacement method.

Activities : 1. Teacher asks pupils to state the standard units of volume of liquid in
metric system.

2. Pupils name the appropriate tools to measure the volume of liquid.

3. Teacher shows a cube and asks pupils to measure the volume of cube by
using the formula. Then, teacher asks pupils to calculate the volume of
irregular-shaped solids by using the formula.

4. Pupils do group activity to investigate the technique to calculate the

volume of irregular-shaped solids by using water displacement method.

5. Teacher guides pupils during the activity.

6. Each group need to present the outcomes of their activity by the end of
the session.

8. Teacher asks pupils to state the standard unit of volume of solids in metric
system for closure.
