1. What is Chain Reaction Process that takes place in Nuclear Power Plants?
2. Why do we arrange Electronic Precipitators at outlet of chimney in a thermal power plant?
3. Distinguish between AC and DC distribution systems.
4. Specify the chief design features of an effective distribution system.
5. Highlight the disadvantages of Gas Insulated Substations.
6. Compare Indoor and Outdoor Substations.
7. Why Transformers and Induction motors cause for low power factors?
8. What is the use of tap changers?
9. What are the expenses that generally considered as running costs of power generation?
10. Differentiate between Load Duration and Integrated Load Duration Curves.

1. a) Show the general lay out of thermal power station and name the different equipment.
b) Explain the description of BWR used in nuclear power plants.
2. A DC 2 wire distributor AB is 450m long and is fed at both ends at 250V. The Distributor is
loaded as shown. The resistance of each conductor is 0.05 ohms per km. find the point of
minimum potential and its value.

3. a) Explain about Main and Transfer busbar systems with neat sketches.
b) Briefly discuss on maintenance of Gas Insulated Substations.
4. Explain various power factors improvement techniques.
5. Briefly discuss on Two part, Three Part and Power Factor tariff methods with examples.
6. a) List out the merits and demerits AC Distribution systems.
b) Appreciate the use of Economiser and Super heater in Thermal Power Stations.
7. A generating Station has the following data:
Installed capacity: 500MW, Capacity factor: 45%, Annual Load Factor: 60%, Annual cost of
fuel: Rs 10x107, Capital Cost: Rs 109, Annual Interest and Depreciation: 15%.
Calculate the minimum reserve capacity of station and the cost per kWH generated.
8. Explain various voltage control techniques.
