1. Define Load Factor.
2. Draw the single line diagram of secondary distribution system.
3. Write the advantages of high voltage distribution system.
4. Define power factor in a distribution system.
5. Define automatic sectionalizers.
6. What are the possible faults occur in distribution system.
7. What are the power factor correction methods?
8. Define fault impedance.
9. Define reactive power and give one example for reactive power generators in power system.
10. What are the sequential components?
PART – B
Answer any FIVE questions

1. Write the objective of distribution system planning and explain factors affecting in planning.
2. Draw the single line diagram of radial type primary feeder and mention the factors that
influence the selection of primary feeder.
3. Draw single line diagram of 3 phase non uniformly distributed loads and derive the total
power loss is 8/15 (Is2 rl).
4. Consider the 3-phase, 3-wire, 240 V secondary system with balanced load at A, B & C as
shown in figure. The section impedances are given in Ω/Ph. Determine the following:
a) Total voltage drop in the feeder
b) Total power per phase for each load
c) KVA output of the distribution transformer & load power factor

5. Compare and explain the role of shunt and series capacitors in power factor correction.
6. a) what are the main objectives of distribution system protection ? Discuss.
b) Explain any two methods of co-ordination of protective devices.
7. a) Discuss the effect of series capacitors and AVB/AVRs in distributed system.
b) What are the deferent methods used to improve the voltage in distribution system?
8. a) Define following
i) Connected load ii) Demand factor iii) Diversity factor iv) Utilization factor
b) A substation has connected load of 45MW and a maximum demand of 22MW, the units
supplied being 60 × 106 / annum. Determine a) demand factor b) load factor
