Example #7-Pumping Oil Well (Example7.csv)

This document summarizes an example of an oil well that is being pumped at a constant bottomhole pressure of 600 psig. The well produces from an reservoir with unknown drive mechanisms and an initial gas-oil ratio of 480 scf/bbl that remains constant. Reservoir parameters like porosity, saturation, and fluid properties are provided to allow analysis of whether the well exhibits boundary dominated flow and if Fetkovich typecurves or specialized/numerical modeling approaches could help analyze production.

Example #7- Pumping Oil Well (example7.

csv)

Description:

- Pumping oil well – BHP constant at 600 psig

- Initial solution GOR = 480 scf/bbl; remains relatively constant
- Reservoir drive mechanism unknown
- Workover performed in late July, 2002 to clean out well

Reservoir / Wellbore Parameters:

Pi = 5,300 psia (bottomhole)

T = 200 deg F
h = 20 ft
porosity = 20 %
Sg = 0%
Sw = 20 %
G = 0.65
CO2, H2S, N2 = 0

Oil Gravity = 40 API

Initial Solution GOR = 483 scf/bbl
Producing GOR = 483 scf/bbl

Questions:

- Does the well exhibit boundary dominated flow?

- Is this a good application for Fetkovich typecurves?
- How can you apply Specialized analysis to this example?
- Does using Numerical Modeling help you further with your analysis?
