RAILWAY BRIDGES
Jammu Udhampur Rail Link Bridges
Client: Northern Railway
Project Period: Nov, 1995 to Dec, 2004.

Services Provided by TCPL

 Structural design proof check of 7 bridges
 Advice on all technical matters
 Specialist advice during construction.

Jammu-Udhampur Rail Link (JURL), 53.6 km long is a part of Jammu - Srinagar - Baramulla Rail Project. This provides an
economic, efficient and reliable supplement to the existing means of transport to Kashmir Valley. The Jammu-Udhampur Rail
Link (JURL) completed in the year 2004 at a total cost of approx Rs 350 crore. It involved construction of 151 bridges, out of
which 116 are minor bridges (culverts) and 35 are major bridges.

TCPL was entrusted with an independent check of the designs of 7 Bridges, of which those over rivers Tawi, Sardan, Ringhal,
Gambhir and Dudhar were the most difficult and pioneering in nature. Viaduct E-18 is an extension of Tawi bridge

Built in difficult mountainous terrain, in zones of high seismicity with pier heights upto 80 m, some of the major problems associated
with planning and designing of bridges in hilly areas were the presence of boulders, steep slopes, unstable geological formations,
approachability, transportability of materials, hydraulic characteristics of rivers, etc.
