Deploy Software Updates using SCCM

1 Find Required Updates
• Run ”System Center Configuration Manager” as administrator from Start menu.

• Click on ”Software Library”

• Expand ”Software Updates” and then click on ”All Software Updates”.

• Add Expired No AND Superseded No search criteria to filter updates. Then click
on Serach.

2 Download & Deploy Update
• Select required updates according to policy and click on ”Create Software Update
Group” from context menu

• Provide a Name and click on Create.

• Now select ”Software Update Groups” under ”Software Updates” section.

• Select previously created 2 software update group. Click on Download from context
menu.

• Select ”Create a new deployment package” in ”Download Software Updates Wizard”.


Provide ”Name”, browse the directory of package source and check ”Enable binary
differential replication” option.

• Add necessary distribution points/groups and click on Next.

• Select ”Automatically download content when packages are assigned to distribution
points” as distribution settings and click on Next.

• Click on Next at Download Location section.

• Click on Next at Language Selection section.

• Review summary and click on Next. click on Finish at Completion section.

• Select previously created 2 software update group. Click on Deploy from context
menu.

• Provide ”Deployment Name”, select ”Collection”.

• Check ”Use Wake-on-LAN to wake up clients for required deployments” option at De-
ployment Settings section.

• Select ”As soon as possible” as Installation deadline.

• At User Experience section -

– Check both ”Software updates installation” and ”System restart (if necessary)”
as Deadline behavior.
– Check ”If any updates in the deployment requires a system restart, run updates
deployment evaluation cycle after restart” as Software updates deployment
re-evaluation behavior upon restart.

• Ensure Download Settings as per below screenshot.

• Review Summary and at last click on ”Finish” at Completion section.
