TABLE OF SPECIFICATIONS (TOS)
1. The two-way format with the six (6) Cognitive Domains (in verb form)
is followed.
2. Learning Competencies (LCs) for the quarter are listed.
3. LCs that require performance and product assessment are labelled.
4. The recommended total number of items are shown.
Grades 1 - 3 = 30 items
Grades 4 – 6 = 50 items
Grades 7 – 12 = 60 items
5. Allocated items for the LCs are properly placed under the
corresponding domain arranged in accordance with the item
placement in the test paper.
6. Technical considerations:
a. Paper size – Legal (8.5” x 13.0”)
b. Margin - Normal (1” all sides)
c. Orientation - Landscape
d. Font – Arial
e. Font size - 12
TEST QUESTIONS (TQs) / TEST ITEMS
1. Test items are aligned with the learning competency.
2. Test items are arranged according to the level difficulty (determined
by the verb introducing the LC), LOTS to HOTS.
3. Test items are numbered continuously.
4. The recommended total number of items is strictly followed.
Grades 1 - 3 = 30 items
Grades 4 – 6 = 50 items
Grades 7 – 12 = 60 items
A. STEM
1. Directions/instructions are very clear.
2. The stem is written in a question or an incomplete statement.
3. A formulated problem is clearly presented in the stem of the
question.
4. Positively worded. Negative words used are CAPITALIZED,
ITALICIZED, UNDERLINED AND IN BOLD FONT.
5. Words that are repeated in each alternative is included in the stem.
6. Blank space for incomplete statements is found at the end of the
statement.
B. OPTIONS/CHOICES/ALTERNATIVES
1. Three (3) options/ choices (for lower grades -1 to 3) and four (4)
options (grades 4-12) are provided.
2. Options grammatically consistent with the stem and parallel in form.
3. Choices are arranged in a logical or in a numerical order (most to least
and chronological).
4. Letter options are in capital letters. (A B C D)
5. Choices are homogeneous in content and in grammatical structure.
6. Alternatives are approximately equal in length.
C. TEST PAPER (TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS)
a. Paper size – Legal (8.5” x 13.0”)
b. Margin - Normal (1” all sides)
c. Orientation - Portrait
d. Font – Gr 1-2 Century Gothic
Gr 3-12 Arial
e. Font size - 14 (Gr 1-2), 12 (Gr 3-6), 11 (Gr 7-12)
f. Color of graphics (tables, figures, images) - black
g. The name of school and the name of teacher are allowed to be
printed in the test paper. No other unnecessary texts and images
