Political - : Economical - Tributes

The Spaniards lasted 300 years in the Philippines because there was a balance between the Spaniards and Filipinos, with little serious conflict. There was no strong sense of nationalism among Filipinos at the time, and the Spanish established a central government to rule over the fragmented barangays and chieftaindoms that existed previously. The Spanish also introduced social, economic, and cultural changes through schools, control of the economy via tributes, and spreading of religion, which influenced Filipino clothing, cooking and way of life.
