This rubric assesses student knowledge of U.S. imperialism in the 19th and 20th centuries across 5 categories. For each category, students can score between 1-4 points based on poor, fair, good, or excellent understanding. The categories cover identifying economic shifts leading to U.S. expansion overseas, imperial powers and their colonies, relationships between colonizers and colonized, and American colonies and how their resources tied to American exceptionalism. The rubric will be used for a summative assessment of a unit on imperialism in the age of modernity.
