Q2. (a) Describe the sharpness of series resonance with suitable diagram and derive [12]
the necessary expression of bandwidth. Also derive the expression for
quality factor.
(b) A series R-L-C circuit is connected to a 230 V, 50 Hz, single phase AC [08]
supply.
The value of R = 5 Ω, L = 13 mH and C = 140 µF. Find (i) total reactance,
(ii) impedance, (iii) current drawn, and (iv) power factor of the circuit.
Q3. (a) Three impedances each having a resistance of 20Ω and an inductive [10]
reactance
of 15Ω are connected in star across a 400 V, 3-φ supply. Calculate (i) the
line
current, (ii) the power factor , and (iii) the total power in kW.
(b) Two wattmeters were used to measure the power of a balanced 3-φ system [10]
and
the readings of two wattmeter were 16.2 kW and – 8.2 kW. The line voltage
was 440 V. Determine (i) total active power drawn, (ii) power factor, and
(iii)
line current.
Q4. (a) A DC shunt generator delivers 195 A at a terminal voltage of 250 V. The [12]
armature resistance and shunt field resistance are 0.02Ω and 50Ω
respectively. The iron and friction losses are equal to 950 W. Find (a) EMF
generated, (b) total Cu-loss, and (c) efficiency of the generator.
(b) Two coils with a co-efficient of coupling of 0.6 between them are connected [08]
in the series so as to magnetize (i) in the same direction and (ii) in the
opposite
direction. The corresponding values of equivalent inductances for (i) and (ii)
are 1.8 H and 0.8 H respectively. Find the self-inductance of these two coils
and the mutual inductance between them.
Q5. (a) Draw the phasor diagram of an ideal transformer at no-load and also the [4]
phasor diagram of a transformer at no-load.
(b) With the help of neat circuit diagram describe the open circuit test and short [16]
circuit test of the transformer to obtain the equivalent circuit parameters.
