Tutorial - 05: 10 Cos (2 10 5sin 2000)

This document contains 5 tutorial problems related to angle modulation: 1) Find the maximum phase and frequency deviation of a given angle modulated signal. 2) Write the FM equation for a given carrier frequency and modulating signal, and determine the bandwidth using frequency deviation and Carson's rule. 3) Determine the peak phase deviation, modulation index, peak frequency deviation, and modulation index for a given message signal modulating a PM and FM modulator. 4) Determine the bandwidth for a given modulating signal modulating a carrier under PM, FM, and when the modulating frequency is doubled. 5) Write the mathematical expression for an NBFM signal that is multiplied by a frequency multiplier

TUTORIAL - 05

1) Find the maximum phase deviation and frequency deviation of an

angle modulated signal: s (t ) 10 cos[2 10 5 t 5sin 2000 t ] .

2) Write FM equation with the following properties: f c 10 6 Hz,

m(t ) 4 cos 200 t . The frequency deviation constant is 500 rad/sec/volt

and the power of the FM signal is 50 W. Determine the bandwidth of
the FM signal based on
(i) frequency deviation,
(ii) Carson's rule.

3) A message signal 2 cos 2600 t is angle modulated.

(i) Determine the peak phase deviation and modulation index of
PM modulator with a deviation sensitivity 2.5 rad/V.
(ii) Determine the peak frequency deviation and modulation
index for an FM modulator with a deviation sensitivity
5kHz/V.

4) Consider a modulating signal 2sin 2 103 t is used to modulate a carrier

of frequency 106 Hz. Find the bandwidth for
(i) Phase modulation,
(ii) frequency modulation,
(iii) when the modulating frequency is doubled, Use p 10 and

f 10 units.

5) A NBFM signal s NBFM (t ) 10 cos[2 10 5 t 0.18sin 2000 t ] is applied to a

frequency multiplier by a factor of 20. Write the mathematical

expression for the resultant FM wave.
