MCAG

The document discusses considerations for applying MCAG series relays in protection applications. It notes that single phase MCAG relays were modeled for single phase transformer drives and may require different models for earth fault applications using summated CTs. Three phase relay models each require independent settings for each phase. While efforts were made to select 1A or 5A ratings for the relay settings, MCAG relays do not have standard 1A or 5A ratings and can be applied to non-matching CTs with potential relay modifications.

MCAG – Serie

The relay type model contains all elements of the actual relay. However, in the application of the relay,
please consider the following:

1. The single phase MCAG relays (MCAG 12,13,14 and 19) where all modeled to be driven
from single phase transformers. Unfortunately a different model would be required if these
relays were driven from summated CT's such as would be the case in earth fault applications.
2. Because the three phase relay models have independent settings for each of the phases, these
relays would require three settings; one for each phase.
3. The MCAG relays do not have the normal rating of either 1A or 5A. In fact no standard rating
is given. All efforts were made to select either a 1A or 5A rating that would fit the specific
relay setting values. It would be however possible to apply these relays (as would indeed be
the case for any other relay) to CT's not matching the specified measurement rating. For such
applications, the relay type may need modification.
