Lessonplaninmathematics10permutations 1

This lesson plan is for a mathematics class on permutations and combinations. [1] It aims to review the fundamental counting principle and identify real-life situations involving permutations. [2] Students will illustrate permutations of n objects and solve problems involving permutations of n objects taken r at a time. [3] The lesson will involve a review activity, motivation through examples, a presentation on definitions and examples of permutations, practice problems in pairs, and a closing generalization discussion.

Lesson Plan in Mathematics 10

I. Objectives
a. Recall the Fundamental Counting Principle;
b. Identify real – life situations that involve permutations;
c. Illustrate permutations of n objects
d. Solve problems involving permutations of n objects taken r at a time.

II. Subject Matter:

a. Topic: Permutations and Combinations
b. Sub – topic: Permutations
c. Reference: Mathematics Learner’s Module, pp.: 283 - 286
d. Materials: PowerPoint Presentation

III. Procedure:
A. Preparatory Activities
1. Daily Routine (Prayer, Greetings, Checking of Attendance)

2. Review Exercise

 Let the students play the “ANAGRAM”.

3. Motivation / Introduction

Show the students some pictures where concepts of permutations

were applied in real - life situation and ask the following questions:

-Have you ever wondered why some locks such as the one shown
have codes in them?
-Do you know why a shorter code is “weak” while a longer code is
“strong” personal password in a computer account?
-Have you realized that there are several possible ways in doing
most tasks or activities, like planning a seating arrangement or
predicting the possible outcomes of a race?
-Have you ever been aware that there are numerous possible
choices in selecting from a set, like deciding which combination of
dishes to serve in a catering service or deciding which dishes to
order from a menu?
-Do you know that awareness of these can help you form
conclusions and make wise decisions?

B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
- Discuss with the class the definition of Fundamental Principles
of Counting and give examples.
- Introduce to the class the definition of permutations.
- Give more examples

2. Post Activity
Let students do Example 1 and 2 in pairs, using “Think – Pair – Share”
Strategy.
Activity # 1. Can You Show Me The Way?
A close friend invited Anna to her birthday party. Anna has 4 new
blouses (stripes, with ruffles, long – sleeve, and sleeveless) and 3
skirts (red, pink, and black) in her closet reserved for such occasions.
1. Assuming that any skirt can be paired with any blouse, how
many ways can Anna select her outfit? List the possibilities.
2. How many blouse – and – skirt pairs are possible?
3. Show another way of finding the answer in item 1.

Guide Questions:
1. How did you determine the different possibilities asked for in the
given situations? What method did you use?
2. What did you feel when you were listing the answers?

3. Generalization

Wrap up the lesson by asking the following:

1. What is the lesson all about?
2. What principles did you use to find the number of ways an object be
arrange?

IV. Evaluation/ Seatwork

Let the students answer Exercises numbers 1 – 8.

V. Assignment

What is combination?
Give three examples of real – life situation in which combination is use.
