SBI is transforming its people practices

Attracting and retaining talent in this rapidly evolving banking industry is a key source of
competitive advantage, more so now, than ever before.

With that in mind, the Bank is re-imagining its people practices and transforming itself in a
material way. It has taken The Bank is introducing one of the largest performance management
systems in the world (for over 170,000 employees) which builds individual accountability and
provides input for merit based rewards, recognition, promotions and talent management. key
initiatives in its journey towards HR excellence:
Encouraging meritocracy through the introduction of a state-of-the-art performance management
system

- The Bank is introducing one of the largest performance management systems in the world
(for over 170,000 employees) which builds individual accountability and provides input for
merit based rewards, recognition, promotions and talent management.

- For the first time in SBI, every employee (officers and clerks) can view their monthly
performance against assigned targets. There is data driven and meaningful differentiation
based on performance and it lays the foundation for a deep meritocratic culture

The bank is introducing global best-in-class practices in employee career paths, customized as per
the Bank’s requirements. Job family based expertise being implemented in the bank

- SBI officers will have the flexibility to opt for and build expertise in their areas of interest
viz. Credit, IT, Treasury etc.

- Everyone will be groomed to have a unique mix of all-round banking exposure and
expertise in an area of their choice

Talent Management and development processes are being further enhanced to identify and groom
future leaders

- Top performers will be groomed for leadership through ample rotational opportunities in
high impact roles, mentoring support and specialized senior executive training programs.

A structured onboarding program launched to ensure new recruits integrate well into the
organization

- The SBI Step Up program is a one-of-its-kind initiative to help the new recruits settle in the
bank in the initial years as a probationary officer.

- The bank is leveraging the Facebook platform to encourage peer-to-peer interaction and
help build new relationships with the SBI community from the first day of joining the bank.
A Facebook group of around 1500 new recruits from PO batch of 2015 is already active
since December 2015.

- The SBI Saathi (buddy) program has been launched where a new hire is matched with a
buddy from the same branch, closer in age, for informal guidance.

- A structured mentorship program has been initiated to ensure the new hires find their feet
in the organization. A new probationary officer can reach out to senior officers from the
bank to seek career or personal guidance whenever required.

- Hellen Keller Award for being a Role model company for commitment towards promoting
equal employment opportunities for people with disabilities, 2015

- World HRD Congress Award for Organization with innovative HR Practices, 2014

- Golden Peacock Award for HR excellence, 2013
