TEACHERS’ ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ ACTIVITY

Last meeting, we discussed about Work and Power. So
again what is the formula of Work?
Sir, WORK = Force(N) x Distance (m)
W=Fd

Very Good! How about the Power?

Sir, POWER = Work over Time
𝑊
P= 𝑇

Very Good! So, before we proceed to our new topic, I

have a questions to all of you.
C. LESSON PROPER

TEACHERS’ ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ ACTIVITY

1. ENGAGE:

How can life be without Energy?

Sir, we all know that energy is important to us most
especially in our daily living. Energy can be used in
transportation, communication and also in technologies
that we used today such as cellphones, television, radios
and other advance technology. If we are lack of energy, it
is impossible for us to live with an easy life.
Very Good! What Else? Anyone who wants to answer?

Sir, if we were live without energy, there will be no access

to radios, computers, or the Internet, this means no
access to vital information such as flood warnings and
local news.

Exactly! So, it means we do really need Energy that’s why

we should conserve the source of energy.

2. EXPLORE: NAME THE PICTURE

What are the sources of energy you know?

Can you identify this Picture?

1. 3.

2.

Who wants to answer number 1?

Sir, The Picture Number 1. Is Wind Mill

Very Good! how about number 2?

Sir, The number 2. Is Geothermal Power Plant

Very Good! How about the number 3?

Sir the last picture is Solar Panel

Very Good! So what do you think is the purpose of
different source of energy? Sir, the purpose of source of energy is to convert the
energy to another form of energy.

Exactly! Actually we do not conserve energy because

energy cannot be created but we can conserve the source
of energy.

3. EXAPLAIN

So, Now, let us proceed to our main topic which is

Energy. Anyone who wants to read? Energy – is the capacity to do Work

Very Good! Capacity to do work it means there’s a

changes in position, temperature, and motion of an
object.

So, now, let us focus to the types of Energy which are

Potential and Kinetic Energy. Let us define first Potential Sir, Potential Energy – is the energy associated with the
Energy. Anyone who wants to read? objects position

Very good! Meaning every object has a potential energy

because it pointing out the position of an objects.
Basically, there’s a two types of Potential Energy. First the
Elastic and the second one is Gravitational Potential
Energy.

Let us focus on gravitational potential energy because it

is very common type of potential energy. Anyone who Gravitational Potential Energy – is associated with the
wants to read? object’s vertical distance from a reference point.

“The greater the distance of an object from a reference

point, the higher is its potential energy”

Very good! So, for us to understand the principle, let us

apply it through mathematical equation. Anyone who FORMULA: PE=mgh
wants to read? Where:
PE = Potential energy of an object expressed in N.m or
Joule
M = Mass of the object (Kg)
G= acceleration due to the gravity considered a positive
(9.8m/s2)
H= height of elevation of the object (m)

So, let us try this example for us to see if the principle is

correct. Anyone who wants to read? Example 1. 1Kg durian fruit was raised from the ground.
How much potential energy does it have when lifted
10m, 20m, and 30m?
Very good! So, class, you should always analyze the
problem first before you answer, for you not to be
confused.

Okay, I will answer first. So, you should always write the
given, the formula and the solution like this:

Given: Formula: GPE=mgh

M= 1kg
G= 9.8m/s2
H= 10m Solution:
GPE= (1Kg)(9.8 m/s2)(10m)
= 98Kg.m2/s2 or Joule
Sir,
Okay, anyone who answer the second given? Given: Formula: GPE=mgh
M= 1kg
G= 9.8m/s2
H= 20m Solution:
GPE= (1Kg)(9.8 m/s2)(20m)
= 196Kg.m2/s2 or Joule

Very good! Another one? Sir,

Given: Formula: GPE=mgh
M= 1kg
G= 9.8m/s2
H= 30m Solution:
GPE= (1Kg)(9.8 m/s2)(30m)
= 294Kg.m2/s2 or Joule

Very good! So, did you notice that the more the durian
lifts the more its potential energy. So, meaning the
principle of gravitational potential energy is correct. Did
you understand class? Yes! Sir!

Now, let us proceed to kinetic energy. Anyone who wants Sir, Kinetic Energy – is referred to as energy in motion
to read?

Very good! Meaning the energy that you possess when

you are doing activities is kinetic energy. Okay anyone “The greater the movement of an object, the greater is its
who wants to read the principle of kinetic energy? kinetic energy”

Very good! So, now let us apply the principle though

mathematical equation. Anyone who wants to read? FORMULA: KE = ½ mv2
Where:
KE = Kinetic energy of an object expressed in N.m or Joule
M = mass of the object (Kg)
V = velocity of the object (m/s)

Very good! Let’s have an example. Who wants to read? Example 2. A 30kg motorcycle is traveling with a velocity
of 5m/s. What is its kinetic energy? How about if its
velocity is 8m/s and 10m/s?
So, now let us apply the formula and analyze the
problem.

Given: Formula: KE = ½ mv2

M= 30kg
V = 5m/s
Solution:
KE= ½ (30Kg)(5m/s)2
= ½ (30kg)(25m2/s2)
= ½ (750kg. m2/s2)
= 375 kg. m2/s2 or Joule Sir!,
Given: Formula: KE = ½ mv2
Anyone who wants to answer the second given? M= 30kg
V = 5m/s
Solution:
KE= ½ (30Kg)(8m/s)2
= ½ (30kg)(64m2/s2)
= ½ (1920kg. m2/s2)
= 960 kg. m2/s2 or Joule

Sir!
Given: Formula: KE = ½ mv2
Very good! How about the last given? Anyone? M= 30kg
V = 5m/s
Solution:
KE= ½ (30Kg)(10m/s)2
= ½ (30kg)(100m2/s2)
= ½ (3000kg. m2/s2)
= 1500kg. m2/s2 or Joule

Yes sir!
Very good class!, So, did you understand the principles of
potential and kinetic energy?

4. ELABORATE: Students will write the formula of Potential and Kinetic Energy as well as their principle.

POTENTIAL ENERGY KINETIC ENERGY

Formula: Formula:

Principle of Gravitational Potential Energy: Principle of Kinetic Energy:

TEACHERS’ ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ ACTIVITY

VALUING

So, class! Again what is the importance of energy in our

daily living? Sir, Energy is very essential in life because it can improve
our modern technologies and without it, we cannot live
an easy life. That’s why we should conserve the sources
of energy .
Very good! Actually, energy has a big role in our modern
society, through conserving of different sources of
energy, we can produce electricity, batteries for vehicles,
cellphones and other advance technologies even in our
transportation. That’s why when we conserve we must
also know how to avoid the damage in our environment.
Yes! It is good to have different sources of energy but it
also affects our environment because it creates different
pollution. That’s why we should considered those things!

5. EVALUATION: SOLVING PROBLEM

1. What is kinetic energy of a 200kg roller coaster car that is moving with a speed of 12.0m/s?

2. A 2Kg toy cart is loaded with a brick and pulled at a constant speed along an inclined plane to a height of a seat up. If
the mass of the brick is 3.0kg and the height of the seat top is 0.45m, what is the potential energy of the cart at the seat
top?

Home Delight:

1. Define elastic potential energy and give at least 3 examples

2. Give at least three examples of total potential and kinetic energy with solution
