1. What is culture? Analyze the definition of culture?
Cultural is a learned set of shared interpretations about beliefs, values, norm and social
practices which affect the behaviors of a relatively large group of people.
- Beliefs: refer to the basic understanding of a group of people about what the world is like or what is

true of false.

- Values: refer to what a group of people defines as good and bad or what it regards as important.

- Norms: refer to rules for appropriate behavior, which provide the expectations of people have of one

another and of themselves

- Social practices: are the predictable behavior patterns that members of a cultural typically follow

nation culture: not equivalent terms. Most nations contain multiple cultures within their boundaries.

2. Explain culture and related terms


 Nation: is a political term referring to a government and a set of formal and legal mechanism that

regulate the political behavior of its people.

 Race: commonly refer to shared physical similarities (skin color, eye, shape,….) that mark different

group of people. In reality, race > political and society term, not a biological one/ invented to justify

economic and social distention,

 Ethnic group: is another term often used interchangeably with culture.

 Subculture: refer to racial and ethnic minority groups sharing same nation – state and some aspect

of the large culture

 Co-culture: used to avoid the implication of hierarchical relationship. The European American

culture and these other important culture groups that for the mosaic of the US

3. 6 Forces that maintain cultural differences?

- The Black Death in Europe
- Historical events in the U.S:

 How does ecology affect a culture’s formation and functioning?


- In cold-weather climates

- In warm-weather climates

- High-contact cultures - low-contact cultures

 Examples of technological changes that alter the balance of forces that maintain a culture?

 Explain the importance of some institutional networks in practicing a culture? Give examples
 Analyze the cause and effect relationship between interpersonal communication patterns and
cultural differences.

 Examples of the interrelationship among the cultural forces:
