Breathing and Gas Exchange

The document describes the steps of breathing and gas exchange in the body: 1) The diaphragm contracts and the chest cavity expands, drawing air in through the nose/mouth and into the lungs. 2) Oxygen passes from the air into the blood vessels in the lungs, while carbon dioxide passes from the blood into the air - this is called gas exchange. 3) The diaphragm then relaxes and the chest cavity contracts, squeezing air out of the lungs and repeating the cycle.
