Sue Mingus & Let My Children Hear Music/The Charles Mingus


Institute and Dr. Keller Coker, Dean of The New School for Jazz and
Contemporary Music, announce finalists and this year’s exciting lineup
for the Charles Mingus High School Competition & Festival weekend,
February 15-18, 2019. Entries to this year’s Competition include big
bands and combos from all over the nation and show much heart and great
dedication. The 2019 Festival will include performances and education events
at The New School, and Mingus Big Band will perform all weekend at Jazz
Standard. On Sunday night “outstanding soloists” from the Competition will have an
opportunity to sit in with the band.

On Saturday, clinics and workshops at The New School will feature master classes for instruments
and sections, films, and clinics that explore aspects of Mingus music, followed by a student Mingus jam
and panel event. Prominent Mingus educators and musicians will participate in the clinics and
adjudicate the Competition on Sunday.

- CLINICS, MASTER CLASSES, AND JAMS at The New School, Arnhold Hall, 55 W. 13th St., NYC.
Free admission and open to the public.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 17
- COMPETITION at John L. Tishman Auditorium, University Center, 63 Fifth Avenue, NYC. 

Free admission and open to the public.
- OUTSTANDING SOLOISTS invited to sit in: MINGUS BIG BAND at Jazz Standard. Sets 7:30pm|9:30pm.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 18
- MINGUS ORCHESTRA at Jazz Standard. Sets 7:30pm|9:30pm.
