List Observations Relating To A Simple Activity Students Will Be Able To Identify A Statement As An Inference Based On The Observations

The learning plan is about teaching students the difference between observations and inferences in science. Students will view an image and list observations, then identify statements as observations or inferences. The goal is for students to learn how scientists make observations about the world and explore their observations scientifically. Students will understand that observations are facts gathered with senses, while inferences are possible explanations based on observations.

LEARNING PLAN

SCIENCE 7

Topic: Observation and Inference

Content Standard: The learners demonstrate an understanding of scientific ways of acquiring

knowledge and solving problems

Performance Standard:

Learning Competencies: The learners should be able to:

 List observations relating to a simple activity

 Students will be able to identify a statement as an inference based on the observations

Learning Targets:

1. I can make observation and inference

2. I can differentiate between observation and inference through a problem-solving
approach
3.
Transfer Goal: Students on their own and in the long run will be able to
 To learn how to make observations about the world around them and how to explore their
observations in a scientific manner.
 Scientific knowledge is based on observation and inference
 Understand that an Observation is recognizing and noting a fact to gather information about the
world using our five senses and an Inference is a possible explanation or guess about an
observation
Essential Question(s):
 How are observation useful in making an inference?
 What are the difference between observation and inference and how does scientist use
observation and inference?

Enduring Understanding:
 The students will demonstrate an understanding of scientific ways of acquiring knowledge and
solving problems through making an observation and inference.
STAGES ACTIVITIES

 Show students an image of garbage accumulating in the River.

EXPLORE

 Students are asked about the following questions.

1. What is the picture all about?
2. What do you think caused such problem
3. What can we do as steward of God’s creation to protect and conserve
our environment?
FIRM UP  List some of you class observations and inferences about the picture
 Describe an example on how scientist use observation and inferences to
understand some aspect of the natural world.
 What was the observation you made turned out to be an inference?
