Project Report 1
Introduction/abstract:
Polyhouses form an important part of the agriculture and horticulture sectors of a country.
They can used to grow plants under controlled climatic conditions for optimal production.
Automated polyhouse involves the automatic monitoring and controlling of climatic parameters which
directly or indirectly govern the plant growth and hence their production.
In order to control the climate factors and environment autonomously, It is required a
computer/software equipment.
The automated smart monitoring system is design to sense on Arduino which is low cost multi-
functional microcontroller and maintain the parameter in the poly house and providing condition
required for optimal growth of plants.
How did you come up with the idea? What is the background story?
Since we live in Marathwada where is scarcity of water so we look for the problems in
agriculture sector and started working on this problem and when we overlook the problem
statement in SIH we decided to go for it.
What is the USP of your product/solution, eg, low-cost, far-reaching, ease of implementation, first of
its kind, etc?
Low cost easy installation, user friendly, low power consumable design
What are the challenges you faced in the process of building this solution/product?
Looking for variety of fail condition and building the algorithm for it was main challenge
Are you looking to launch your product in the market? Tell us about the team’s future plans.
Yes, we are looking for varies key factors which are important for market launch, we still
improvising our product idea for market launch.

to be grown all year round.
A single person can have control over thousands of plant.
Minimizes labor costs involved in maintaining a greenhouse.
Under minimum space one can have maximum production of crop plants.
“Plug-and play” product.
Maximum use of space and minimum use of water and fertilizers.
Quality of product is best.
Features of design:
Detect and maintain temperatures from -40°C to 125°C.
Detect and maintain humidity levels between 5% RH and 95% RH
Detect sunlight and artificial light.
Detect and maintain moisture in soil.
Continuously update of statistics and parameters over the internet.
Objective:
Build miniature polyhouse house which is equipped with automatic monitoring and controlling
system
Constantly monitor and control environmental conditions in polyhouse to ensure it remains at
preset temperature, light, moisture and humidity levels.
It focuses on saving water, increasing efficiency and reducing the environmental impacts on
plants production.
The user can see the atmospheric conditions of the greenhouse plants on website and control
the greenhouse from far away places.
Functions
Lower Temperature: 1 Cooling Fan
Raise temperature: Heater (indicated by Bulb for demonstration purposes)
Decrease humidity level: 1 Exhaust Fan
Increase moisture level: Water pump connected to a water tank
Increase lighting condition: Fluorescent Light-bulb
Transmission of data over internet: GSM module
Overview :
The sensors are installed on the field to sense the parameter in the polyhouse .
The Arduino microcontroller is used as controller to execute the logic uploaded into it and
parameters are maintain by triggering the various auxiliary devices.
This triggering will ON the LIGHT ,COOLING FAN ,EXHUAST FAN and PUMP
Run time data of field/switching of devices /parameters values will be shown on the serial
monitor. And logging of the data is extracted to the excel file in the monitoring system
Light sensor:
This light sensor sense the presence of ambient light in the polyhouse and measure the intensity of
light of in the polyhouse .
The roof of the polyhouse is holding layers of polythene having specific thickness covering the roof .
Suppose one layer of polythene reducing 25% lux of intensity. Allowing 75% of intensity for plant to
absorb ,if plant required more light ,this condition will trigger ON the LIGHT and will provide
sufficient lux of light . This amount of light is controlled by regulator ,so that required amount of
light is available to plant .
MOISTURE SENSOR:
The moisture sensor will sense the moisture in the soil and gives the reading to Arduino and
according to the algorithm Arduino will perform the action.
If the moisture value falls below threshold value the water supply pump will be ON and as soon as
the water level rises to sufficient value the supply pump will be OFF .
This way only the amount of water required will be provided reducing the wastage of unnecessary
amount .
Conclusion:
This design system optimizes the water uses in the field by supplying water from the pump
only when there is necessity of water to the plant .this reduces the water consumption of
water by 20% to 30%.
And using drip irrigation with mulch technique reduces the moisture evaporation rate by
25%,by doing this we will reduce the consumption of supply of water by 50%.
