Creating Bootable USB Drive Using Rufus
1. Rufus requires an account with admin access in order to make the necessary changes to hardware.
After authenticating, insert the USB flash drive and launch Rufus. It will detect the drive almost
immediately. Since Rufus can handle various partition schemes and file structures, ensure that the
correct settings are set that match the UFD you're going to build (Figure A).

2. Choose from the drop down menu the ISO image next to the Create a bootable disk check box, and
you'll be prompted to search for the ISO image to use Click the optical drive button (Figure B).

3. When using ISO images, Rufus will automatically modify the settings to best match it. Once everything
is set correctly, click the Start button to begin the process. You'll be prompted with a warning that all
data on the UFD will be destroyed. Click OK to proceed with the creation process (Figure C).

4. Depending on the ISO image size, the process may take several minutes to complete. For the log
readout of each step in the process, click the Log button to open a side window and save the output
details (Figure D).

5. The longest part of the entire process is the file copy portion. This is typically the last step and varies
depending on file size/number of files to copy (Figure E).

6. When complete, double-check the external drive to verify the files were copied over (Figure F).

Steps to Create Bootable Pendrive using CMD
CMD is available on all of the windows computers, so you would not have to worry about downloading any
new package or software to make your pendrive bootable. It is a bit lengthy process but it traditional
method and always works:
1. Run cmd(Command Prompt) as Administrator. (This is an important step because you are going
to edit disks which require admin privileges)
2. Connect your pendrive to your computer.
3. Type disk part and press enter. (This will open the windows inbuilt disk part utility which is used
to manage the storage on your computer)
4. Type list disk and press enter. This will list all the storage device available on your computer.
5. Choose your pendrive. For that type select disk 1 and press enter. (Here it is disk 1. In your
computer it may differ so choose wisely
6. Type clean and press enter. This will erase all data from your pendrive.
8. Type select partition 1 and press enter. This will choose the partition we just created.
9. Type format=fs NTFS quick and press enter. This will perform a quick format
with the NTFS file system. (Windows use NTFS file system for storage)
10. Type active and press enter. This will mark your primary partition as active.
11. Type exit and press enter to exit disk part and then close the command prompt.
12. Now copy all the data from Windows installation disk to your pendrive.
