FIRST USE OF 12-24 KV UMC SERIES
METAL CLAD SWITCHGEAR
When you receive the Metal Clad switchgear, it will be earthed and the door will be closed and
locked. After arranging the switchgear according to the Single Line Diagram(SLD) and
supplying the Low Voltage control panel, please go on the following steps:

First step for the user is to connect the MV cables to the switchgear, at the pre-situation you
are able to start that directly by doing the following steps:

1. Use a suitable screwdriver to detach the screws on the rear down door then you may be
able to connect MV cable from rear side.

If you find it hard, you can use the second way:

1. Open the front door of the switchgear while it is earthed. To be able to open the front door
make sure that the door is unlocked by key and choose earthing switch position.

and detach the screws in the down front door and open it.

2. You will see another door (crossing door)


after the down front door,

also use suitable screwdriver to demount it.

3. Connect MV cables
Note: the copper in the photo is for earthing every part in the switchgear.
Now let us know more details about using Metal Clad.

Opening the Earthing Switches (ES): Opening and Closing the C.B.:
By using the handle you will be able to open the ES manually. Opening and closing may be done while Service or Test

First of all you need to take the C.B. to service position by

1. Close the door or make sure that it is closed.
2. Make sure that the door of cubicle is in C.B. situation as
shown below.

3. Open the hole by removing the lever.

Now you can insert the handle and turn it to open the ES.

4. Use the handle and insert it into the hole and start
turning it until getting service position light (signal) on.

Note: You will see fault signal after inserting the handle because it must trip the C.B. for safety

5. Remove the handle.


6. Turn off the general fault signal lamp by using reset button.

Now you will be able to open and close electrically after making sure that you supplied the LV panel in
order to charge the spring of C.B.

Getting the C.B. Back to Test:

It is enough for you to do the following after checking your grid and loads situation well.
1. Open the hole by removing the lever to insert the handle.
Note: You will see the fault signal and tripping the C.B. immediately for safety at work.
2. Start turning the handle until getting the test position signal.

Withdrawing the C.B. off:

You will need the cradle of C.B. and to make sure that the C.B. in is test position.
1. Make sure that you don’t have Medium Voltage at cable side in cubicle by looking at the Voltage
Indicator on the front side, the light must be off as shown below.

2. Close your ES. 7. Use the brake of the cradle to make it

REINSTALLING THE C.B. INTO
CUBICLE OR INSTALLING A NEW ONE
1. Opposite of above mentioned point.
2. Make sure that you connected the data and supplement cable to the C.B. well.

3. Make sure that you relocked the CB with the switchgear by lever otherwise
the door will not close becasue it is calibrated.

4. Close the door.

Main Interlocks in the Cubicle

1. When the C.B. in Service position (close or open) the front door will be locked and the earthing
switch hole will be closed and locked.
2. When the C.B. is neither in test nor in service the front door will be locked of course the ES hole
will be locked.
3. The rear door is locked while the cubicle is not earthed.
4. The down front door cannot be demounted without opening the above front door (door of C.B.)
