7.- MAINTENANCE MANUAL

It is advisable to restrict access to installations of this type of switchgears to authorized and qualified
personnel, due basically to the potential danger of electrical energy manipulation.

These switchgears have been designed for low maintenance service. Nevertheless, a regular inspection
(every 5 years) is advised to check the state of the gas and the condition of external elements and to carry
out the usual cleaning tasks.

SAFETY MEASURES

Before starting the work in any part of the installation:

- Disconnect and isolate this part of the installation.

- Earth and short-circuit it.

- Secure it against reconnection.

- Disconnect the auxiliary voltage, operating on the pre-connected low voltage circuit-breakers.

- Strictly observe the local and the manufacturer’s safety specifications and prescriptions regarding high
voltage installations.

GAS CONDITION CHECKING

Although these units have been factory-tested to ensure a reliable functioning for 30 years with no gas
refilling, they are provided with a pressure gauge to check gas condition. Such condition will be the
appropriate one whenever the indicator needle is on the green area of the scale. If the indicator needle is
on the orange area, there is no operation risk, but it is necessary to contact MESA Technical Service.

INSPECTION EVERY 5 YEARS

- Operate the busbar disconnectors.

- Check if the rods move easily and lubricate them together with the bearings.

- Perform test operations. Check if positions "ON" "OFF" "READY TO EARTH" are correctly reached.

- Check interlocking systems as per the section on the end of the Operating Instructions (1st Part).

- Check the tightening of the screwed connections of the control circuits.

- Check the state of the painting and retouch if necessary.

SUPERVISION OF CIRCUIT-BREAKERS

MAINTENANCE OF THE OPERATING MECHANISM: Maintenance duties must be carried out every 3
years or every 2000 operations. It is up to the user’s mind to perform these operations more frequently than
stipulated, depending on the particular conditions the unit is subject to.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS: All the operations described below must be carried out according to the stated
safety standards and in the presence of qualified personnel.

CLEANING: The units have been designed to guarantee a correct service provided the required
maintenance duties are fulfilled.

Generally, a thorough cleaning precedes all maintenance duties.

For a correct cleaning, note that the use of solvents at a too high pressure may cause damage in the
apparatus.

MAINTENANCE OF THE OPERATING MECHANISM OF THE CIRCUIT-BREAKER

WARNING: Before starting with the maintenance works, make sure that:

- The unit is out of service.

- The circuit-breaker is in open position.

- The springs are not charged.

The operating mechanism must be cleaned and lubricated using the type of lubricant and oil recommended
(Isoflex Topas NB52).

PROTECTION OF THE OPEN PARTS OF THE INSTALLATION

- Protect the open parts of the installation against dirt.

- Before closing the installation, remove dirtiness with a vacuum-cleaner.

LUBRICANTS

ISOFLEX TOPAS NB52

- For bearings, sliding surfaces, joints, rollers, transmissions and the rest of lubricated points.

- For the contact pieces of the auxiliary circuit-breakers and for the interlocking systems.
