SAFE Version 12.3.

2
Release Notes
© Copyright Computers and Structures, Inc., 2012

Release Date: 2012-01-12

This file lists all changes made to SAFE since the previous version. Most changes do not affect most users. Incidents
marked with an asterisk (*) in the first column of the tables below are more significant and are included in the ReadMe
file.

Changes from V12.3.1 (2010-12-16)

Design
Enhancements Implemented
* Incident Description
35218 Equation 8.1.3(2) of the Australian code AS 3600-2009 has been changed for reinforced concrete
and PT design according to Amendment No. 1 to AS 3600-2009.
41342 The enforcement of minimum shear links now recognizes the slab separately from beam.
Previously, minimum shear links were enforced for both beam and slab design. This enhancement
affects all design codes.

User Interface
Incidents Resolved
* Incident Description
31494 An incident was resolved in which a runtime error could occur when pressing the Enter key after
editing a span data field on the Tendon Profile form. Results were not affected.
32840 An incident was resolved in which a runtime error would occur when clicking the OK button on a
slab property or beam property data form that was opened from the Model Explorer tree. This only
occurred if the same form was previously opened from the regular menu system.
33284 An incident was resolved where a runtime error would sometimes occur when using the Tendon
Vertical Profile form and using the Undo command in the form after deleting a span support.
Results were unaffected.

Modeling
Incidents Resolved
* Incident Description
34188 An incident was resolved in which the torsional constant calculated for T beam sections with wide
36898 flanges and shallow stems could become negative in extreme cases. The error was obvious when it
occurs because the analysis log file showed that the model was unstable.

Loading
Incidents Resolved
* Incident Description
30758 An incident was resolved where importing the model from the .F2K text file would in some cases
lose non-uniform area load specifications. Uniform area loads were not affected by this incident.

Design
Incidents Resolved
* Incident Description
35105 An incident was resolved in which the flexural design of reinforced concrete slabs and beam was
sometimes overconservative, requiring too much rebar, when axial tension was present in the
controlling load combinations.

Results Display and Output

Incidents Resolved
* Incident Description
30760 An incident was resolved where the results window may show the wrong Load Case/Combo name
in the caption for crack width displays. The displays were for the correct Load Case/Combo
requested, only the caption could be incorrect. In worst cases this may also result in the program
crashing.

Documentation
Incidents Resolved
* Incident Description
31440 A documentation error has been corrected for the SAFE PT Design manual in which it was stated
for the ACI 318-08 code that the minimum mild steel per ACI 18.3.9.3 is 0.0075Acf. This has been
corrected to state the clause is ACI 18.9.3.3 and that the minimum amount is 0.00075Acf. Results
were not affected.

Miscellaneous
* Incident Description
41343 The version number has been changed to v12.3.2 for a new minor release.
