(ii) its modulus of elasticity E which is the ratio of stress to strain . Deduce by the method of
dimensions the formula for the speed of sound ?

(b) A 1500 kg has its velocity 20 𝒎𝒔−𝟏 to15 𝒎𝒔−𝟏 in 3.0 s. How large was the average retarding force ?

Q 7. (a) Discuss the effect of temperature on the speed of sound and show that for one degree celsius
rise in temperature , the speed of sound is increased by 61𝒄𝒎𝒔−𝟏 ?

(b) A brick of mass 5kg is dropped from a rest position 5.0 m above the ground . What is the velocity
at a height 3.0 m above the ground ?

Q 8. (a) Define Geostationary satellite and find its orbital radius ?

(b) Find the amplitude frequency and period of an object vibrating at the end of spring , if the

equation of its motion as a function of time is 𝒙 = 𝟎. 𝟐𝟓 𝐜𝐨𝐬 𝟖 𝒕 . What is the displacement of the object
after 2.0 s ?

Q 9. (a) Describe the principle , construction and working of Michelson’s interferometer . How can
you find the wavelength of the light used ?

(b) A telescope is made of an objective lens of focal length 20cm and an eyepiece of 5cm , both are
convex lenses . Find the angular magnification ?
