a) A uniform meter scale is put on a knife edge at 40cm mark. It is found that this scale gets balanced when a weight
of 20gf is suspended from the 20cm mark. Find the weight of meter scale. [3]
b) A virtual, enlarged image is formed when an object is placed between the optical centre and the principal focus of a
lens. [3]
(i) Name the type of lens which forms the above image.
(ii) Draw a ray diagram to show the formation of the image with the above stated characteristics.
c) A beam consisting of red, blue and yellow colours is incident normally on the face AB of an isosceles right angled
prism ABC as shown in given figure. Complete the diagram to show the refracted and emergent rays. Given that the
critical angle of glass- air interface for yellow colour is 450. [4]

a) A ray of light PQ is incident normally on the hypotenuse of a right angled prism ABC as shown in the diagram.

(i) Copy the diagram and complete the path of the ray PQ till it emerges from the prism.
(ii) What is the value of the angle of deviation of the ray?

b) The figure along the side shows a simple pendulum of mass 200g. It is displaced from the mean position A to the
extreme position B. The potential energy at position A is zero. At position B the bob is raised by 5m. [4]
(i) What is the potential energy of the pendulum at position B?
(ii) What is the total mechanical energy at point C?
(iii) What is the speed of the bob at position A when released from position B?
c) A, B and C are the three forces each of magnitude 4N acting in the plane of paper as shown in given figure. Point O
lies in the same plane. [3]
(i) Which force has the greatest moment about O?
(ii) What is the resultant torque about the point O?

a) A uniform half meter ruler balances horizontally on a knife edge at 29cm mark when a weight of 20gf is suspended
from one end. [3]
(i) Draw a diagram of the arrangement.
(ii) What is the weight of the half meter rule?
b) What are the SI and CGS unit of work? How are they related? [3]
c) A ray of light enters the glass slab ABCD as shown in figure and strikes at the centre O of the circular part AC of
the slab. The critical angle of glass is 420. Complete the path of the ray till it emerges out from the slab. Mark the
angles in the diagram whenever necessary. [4]

(ii) Find the focal length of the lens
(iii) Find the magnification of the image.
c) A coolie X carrying a load on his head climbs up a slope and another collie Y carrying the identical load on his head
moves the same distance on a friction less horizontal platform. Who does more work? Explain the reason? [3]
