Technical Query / Request

1) AusGroup requests approval from Chevron to modify welding procedures WPS 1470 and 1472 to allow the use of a 2.5mm electrode instead of a 3.2mm electrode for welding a 6mm anchor with a 3mm fillet. 2) The current procedures specify using a 3.2mm electrode in a single pass, but welders are finding this difficult to achieve during qualification and it may affect the actual job. 3) Using a 2.5mm electrode has shown better results and would still comply with the other qualified parameters of the procedures. Approval is requested to qualify welders and complete the actual job using a 2.5mm electrode.

Section 1 (To be completed by AusGroup)

Client: Chevron Attention: Niekie Jooste
Contract Title: CVX-TA-101-WHRU
Contract / Purchase Order No: WHRU
Document / Drawing Reference: WPS 1470 and WPS 1472 Rev No: 0

+Description of Technical Deviation / Query:

• To weld 6mm anchor with 3mm fillet (1554.6 Table 3.3.5), the procedures(1554.6) WPS 1470 and 1472 allows
to weld with 3.2mm electrode(single pass only) which we are finding diffcult for the welder to achieve
complaince for their qualification. Our concern is this will affect the actual job at site with the current
parameters.
Drawings and WPS attached.
Proposed Action:
Utilizing 2.5mm electrode has shown better results. Requesting to utilize 2.5mm, complying with the remaining qualified
parameters of the procedures (1470 and 1472), to qualify welders and the actual job.
