The Effects of Lower Price of Rice Grains in The Farmers

Lower prices for rice grains negatively impact farmers in the Philippines. Rice is the staple food and achieving self-sufficiency benefits the country by reducing poverty and increasing competitiveness. However, the study found that as rice prices fell from 19 pesos per kilo in 2018 to 15 pesos per kilo after a new law, fewer farmers chose to plant rice due to low profits. To help farmers, the government should decrease rice imports to support domestic prices.

THE EFFECTS OF LOWER PRICE OF RICE GRAINS IN THE FARMERS

ABSTRACT

This study we can see if what are the negative impact of lower price of rice grains to the
farmers here in our country. Most of the farmers here in our country are they planting rice
grains. Rice in the Philippines is very important because rice is the staple foods of Filipinos. If
there would be an increase in price of rice and then there would be an increase in the cost of
living of Filipinos. Achieving rice self-sufficiency in the Philippines provides supply for the ever-
increasing population, it can also reduce our poverty and to show that we are globally
competitive and many more.

In this paper, It estimated the effects of having a lower price of rice grains in the farmers.
According to the Department of Agriculture(DA) the numbers of farmers here in Philippines are
continued decreasing. The price of rice grains last year 2018 is 19 pesos per kilo, before it went
down to 15 pesos per kilo when the Rice Tariffication Law was implemented early this year.
Therefore the only way to help our farmers on their problem and the way to cut back on them
their spending on planting rice is to decrease the importing of rice on other country of our
Government.
