keyboard  room,  to  give  you  hands-‐on  practice  on  the  piano  keyboards  and  to  more  effectively
learn  some  of  the  musical  concepts.  Please  check  your  SYLLABUS  to  know  which  classroom  we
are  meeting  in.  I  will  notify  the  class  by  email  about  room  changes  when  they  occur.  It  is  your
responsibility  to  check  your  email  and  arrive  on  time.  Bungalow  7  is  near  the  Sheriff’s  bungalow
and  across  the  street  from  the  parking  structure.

Course  Requirements

login  to  Etudes  to  get  the  Syllabus  and  Handouts  that  you  will  bring  to  class  each  day.  Please  note:
You  must  agree  to  the  terms  of  the  Syllabus  before  you  can  access  the  other  materials  on  the
Etudes  site.  Then  you  will  login  each  week  for  the  class  Handouts,  Worksheets,  Announcements,
Resources,  and  other  things  pertaining  to  the  class.  If  you  have  any  questions  or  problems  with  the
login,  system  requirements,  or  anything  else,  please  use  the  support  links  and/or  let  me  know
immediately.  Login  =  your  student  ID  number;  Password  =  your  birthday  month  +  day  (you  will  be
prompted  to  create  a  new  strong  password).  You  may  use  the  computers  and  printers  in  the  LAMC
Learning  Center.  Remember  to  check  your  LACCD  email  account  often.  All  Announcements  from
your  professor  will  be  sent  to  that  account.

Musictheory.net—This  class  will  use  musictheory.net  website  for  supportive  lessons  and
exercises.  These  assignments  are  listed  in  the  Homework  column  in  the  Course  Schedule.

Homework—  Homework  includes  daily  written  worksheets  from  your  textbook,  musicianship
exercises  from  the  textbook  (which  you  should  practice  counting  and  clapping),  and  daily  online
exercises  from  musictheory.net.  Written  Homework  assignments  listed  in  the  course  schedule
are  due  the  following  class  day  at  the  beginning  of  class.  Complete  and  on  time  assignments  will
receive  full  credit.  Incomplete  or  one-‐day  late  assignments  will  receive  partial  credit.  It  is
important  to  keep  up  with  the  homework  each  day  in  order  to  succeed  in  the  class.  Check  your
SYLLABUS  daily  for  the  homework  assignments.

2
Quizzes,  Exams—There  are  no  make-‐ups  for  exams  and  quizzes,  including  the  final  exam.  Exams
and  quizzes  must  be  done  in  pencil.

Grading  and  Evaluation
  10%    Attendance,  Class  Participation
  20%    Written  Homework  Assignments
40%    Written  Quizzes  (4  worth  10  points  each)
10%    Practical  Quizzes  (2  worth  5  points  each)
  20%    Final  Exam

The  following  guidelines  will  be  used  in  determining  a  student’s  grade:
A  (90-‐100)   Outstanding  work  and  effort.
B  (80-‐89)   Very  good.  The  work  shows  mastery  of  information  in  a  clear  and
precise  form.
C  (70-‐79)   Good  work.  The  work  indicates  that  the  information  has  been
      learned,  but  needs  more  thought.
D  (60-‐69)   Below  average.  The  work  demonstrates  less  than  the  required  effort  and
indicates  a  minimal  understanding  of  the  material.
F  (0-‐59)   Failure.  The  work  is  inadequate,  showing  no  effort  or  knowledge  of  the
materials.

Holidays—Los  Angeles  Mission  College  strives  to  accommodate  students  who  wish  to  observe
religious  holy  days.    It  seeks  to  reflect  awareness  and  sensitivity  to  religious  holidays  whenever
possible.    Each  student  shall,  upon  notifying  his/her  instructor  in  writing  during  the  first  week  of
classes,  be  excused  from  class  to  observe  a  religious  holy  day  of  his/her  faith.

Honor  Code—Students  will  be  bound  by  the  principles  of  academic  honesty  specified  in  the
Standards  of  Student  Conduct.    Cooperation  on  musicianship  assignments  is  encouraged,  but  all
written  work  must  be  your  own.    Academic  dishonesty  may  result  in  a  lower  grade  or  a  failing
grade  for  the  entire  course.

Learning  Center—All  students  will  be  referred  online  to  the  Learning  Resource  Center  at  the
beginning  of  the  semester.    Since  students  cannot  be  helped  by  the  Center  unless  referred  by
their  instructor,  referring  everyone  initially  allows  any  student  to  seek  help  during  the  semester
if  needed.

Disabilities—Disabled  Students  Programs  and  Services  (DSP&S)  at  Los  Angeles  Mission  College
is  a  support  system  that  enables  students  to  fully  participate  in  the  college’s  regular  programs
and  activities.  DSP&S  provides  a  variety  of  services  from  academic  and  vocational  support  to
assistance  with  Financial  Aid.  If  you  are  a  disabled  student  and  need  a  modification,  special
assistance,  or  accommodation  in  order  to  participate  in  this  class,  alert  the  instructor  promptly
and  contact  the  DSP&S  office  at  818-‐364-‐7732  or  818-‐364-‐7861.  Modifications,  special
assistance,  or  accommodations  can  only  be  made  with  proper  documentation  and  coordination
with  DSP&S.
