Message Control Settings For Customer Master

It is often requested by most of the businesses to have a control in customer master data creation, such as to avoid duplicate customer numbers with same address data, same VAT, number, etc. Standard SAP provides this facility via a message control settings in the customer master. You can configure standard SAP messages based on your business requirement to avoid such cases.

Introduction

It is often requested by most of the businesses to have a control in customer master data creation, such
as to avoid duplicate customer numbers with same address data, same VAT, number, etc. Standard SAP
provides this facility via a message control settings in the customer master. You can configure standard
SAP messages based on your business requirement to avoid such cases.

Customizing
Customer master specific message controls can be configured under below IMG path.

IMG Path:

Under this IMG node, you can control customer master specific messages as below;

o Determine whether a specific message should be issued as a note in the dialog box or in
the footer
o Change messages settings as Information, warning or error

 Go to above IMG node to add/ change message settings

 You can customize below settings


 Under "MsgNo" column add any existing SAP message using "F4" help to change the behavior.
For example, let's say business wants to stop creating multiple customer masters for the same
address. In that case, you can add message no "145" as shown above. It will check and validate
existing customer master data for same address data
 If you want specific messages to be appeared to a specific user, then maintain that user ID under
"User Name" column against the message number. As shown above, the message number "273"
will be applied only to my user ID.
 Under "Online" column, you can specify message control for customer master creation / change
in the online mode.
 "BarchI" column is to specify message controls for batch mode
 Now For testing purpose, I have set the message 145 as below,

 Customer "A2000" was created with below address data


 Now let's try to create another customer with same name / address data to demonstrate the
behavior of our customizing
 As soon as I enter address data, system gives below information message based on the
customizing

 Message details as follows;


 When you press enter key, system shows a list of duplicate customer numbers available in the
system as below;
 Therefore now user can decide whether he/ she want to create a new customer master or to
use existing customer for order creation. This will help the business to have a control over
customer master data creation in the system.
