Chapter 1

Introduction

According to the researchers, wattpad is an application that kills boredom and also a
community for readers and writers where one can discover new user-generated stories, spanning
across different genres including classics, general fiction, historical fiction, non-fiction, poetry,
spiritual, teen fiction among others. It aims at removing the traditional barriers between leaders
and writers by building social communities around stories. It provides the writers with an
opportunity to write, promote and help their work reach across a wide and varied audience of
more than a million users. The users are actively engaged in the entire process and are able to
directly interact with the writers and share their opinions with fellow readers. Its model not only
works for amateur writers, but for established writers as well. Wattpad originate in 2006, as the
result of collaboration between Allen Lau and Ivan Yuen. In February 2007, Wattpad announced
the addition over 17,000 e-books from Project Gutenberg making them available to mobile
application had been downloaded over 5 million times. In March 2014, Wattpad signed a
contract with Pop-Fiction, an imprint of Summit Media, to print Filipino Wattpad Stories in the
Philippines. The other publishers from the Philippines also publish stories from Wattpad. High
School students can relate their lives in some Wattpad Stories because most stories is about
teenage life. It also gives inspiration and motivates them to continue living no matter how hard
the situation is because God gives us challenges to prove how much we trust Him on His
decisions.

Background of the Study

Reading wattpad is very famous in today’s time. I chose this study to be able to know the
time students allot in reading this. This research entitled “The Amount of time students consume
in reading wattpad stories”.
Statement of the Problem

This study aims to determine the number of students in Ipil NHS who read wattpad stories out of
120 students from Junior High school students. This study also seeks the answer of the following
questions:

1.) How many Students of IPILNHS reads wattpad stories?

2.) How long is the time they consume in reading wattpad?

3.) Do they read possessive series in wattpad?

Hypothesis

1. The researcher will get a big average amount of students reading wattpad

2. The amount of time students consume in reading wattpad is long.

Significance of the Study

The significance of the study is to fulfil the curiosity of the researcher about how many
students in IPIL National High school read wattpad stories and how much the time they consume
in reading it. And also, this will help the students and future researchers.

 Students- this study will help them realize that reading wattpad has an effect on their
academic skills.
 Future researchers- this will help them to seek further study related to this topic.
Definition of terms

Wattpad- an application that kills boredom

Possessive – is a word grammatical construction used to indicate a relationship of


possession in a broad sense; strict ownership

Scope and Limitations

This study is limited only to determine the time students in Ipil National High school
consume in reading wattpad stories. However, this study only refers to the students in Ipil
National High School and doesn’t require any students from other schools.

CHAPTER II

METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the research design, respondents, instruments and data gathering
technique and data analysis of the study.

RESEARCH DESIGN

The researcher uses descriptive design in conducting the study. The researcher use to
describe the information and data about the amount of time INHS students consume in reading
wattpad.

RESEARCH RESPONDENTS

The respondents of this study are randomly selected 30 grade 10, 30 grade 9, 30 grade 8
and 30 grade 7 students.

RESEARCH ENVIRONMENT

The researcher conducts the study in Ipil National High School


RESEARCH INSTRUMENTS

The researcher uses questionnaire or answer sheet that will be answered by the
respondents.

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE

Before the conduct, the researcher will ask permission from the specific teacher at the
classroom at the specific time. Upon approval, the researcher will start to gather data through
questionnaires. After the conduct, the researcher will get the answer sheet and started to analyse.

DATA ANALYSIS

The researcher uses quantitative method in conducting the study. The researcher uses
table and percentage values to analyse the data that had been gathered.
CHAPTER III

PRESENTATION

This is the questionnaire that was given to the 120 students from gr. 7-10.

These questionnaire is used to help the researcher to collect information in order to complete the
study ( The amount of time students consume in reading wattpad stories). Please answer all the
questions by providing the appropriate information

Also shows that 0% of boys and 0% of girls in gr. 7, 5.3of girls and 0% of boys in gr. 8, 0% of
boys and 2.5% of girls in gr. 9 , and 2.5% of girls and 0% of boys in gr. 10 students reads
wattpad stories for 4-8 hrs.

Summary, Conclusion, Recommendation

Summary

Wattpad is an application that kills boredom to the person who reads it. Some students want it to
kill boredom and others want it because of the nice stories they have. Most of the students that I
had surveyed, most students who reads are the girls. The effect of Wattpad is somewhat bad
because they prefer to read it than to study. They should limit their time in reading Wattpad, they
must focus on their school works or studies.

Conclusion

Wattpad is very known specially for students but has bad effect. An intervention plan that
involves students and teachers and school staffs is require to ensure that all students specially the
girls can learn how to limit or balance their time in reading Wattpad and studying.

Recommendation

•Let's help or teach the students how to balance their time in reading Wattpad and studying
•We must advise the students for them to know the consequences they can encounter if they'll
continue take for granted the studies than reading wattpad
