ABSTRACT

In this project, we have demonstrated the functioning of a simple car parking system.

In this project we create a parking system which calculates the total capacity of cars

and direct the cars to the appropriate position. IR sensors used as slot sensors to

detect presence or absence of cars, microcontroller is used to control the whole

system.
CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

Managing the whole parking system in many public places like malls, exhibition etc.

is quite a tough task as it involves managing space for new vehicles. Moreover, there

is a lot of men labor involved for which there is a lot of investment. So, this project

demonstrates an automatic parking system which indicates directly which parking

slot is vacant in any lane along with the total parking capacity.

CHAPTER 3

COMPONENT STUDY

ATMEGA 16 :-

It is a 40-pin low power 8-bit microcontroller which is developed using CMOS

technology and based on AVR architecture. This is the most commonly used AVR

microcontroller which belongs to Atmel Mega family.. It is a single chip computer

that comes with CPU, ROM, RAM, EEPROM, Timers, Counters, ADC and four 8-

bit ports called PORTA, PORTB, PORTC, PORTD where each port consists of 8

I/O pins.

LED:-
The LED is a PN junction device which emits radiation when a current pass

Through it in the forward direction (i.e. when LED is forward bias). The charge

carrier recombination occurs at a PN junction as electrons cross from N side and

recombines with holes on the P side. When recombination takes place the charge

carrier gives up energy in the form of heat and light. If the semi conducting material

is translucent, the light is emitted and junction becomes the source of light..

16×2 LCD Display:-

The 16×2 LCD display is a very basic module commonly used in DIYS and

circuits. The 16×2 translates and display 16 characters per line in 2 such lines. In

this LCD each character is displayed in a 5×7 pixel matrix.

POTENTIOMETER:

A potentiometer is a three-terminal resistor with a sliding or rotating contact that

forms an adjustable voltage divider. If only two terminals are used, one end and the

wiper, it acts as a variable resistor. The measuring instrument called a potentiometer

is essentially a voltage divider used for measuring voltage; the component is an

implementation of the same principle, hence its name.

RESISTOR:
resistor is a passive 2 terminal electrical component that implements electrical

resistance as a circuit element. In electronic circuits, resistors are used to reduce

current flow, adjust signal levels, to divide voltages, bias active elements, and

terminate transmission line, among other uses. Fixed resistors have resistances that

only change slightly with temperature, time or operating voltage.

DIODE :

A P-N junction is known as semiconductor diode or crystal diode. The property of a

crystal diode is to conduct to current in one direction only. A crystal diode can be

represented by a symbol shown in figure. The arrow in the symbol indicate the

direction of conventional current flow a crystal diode. It has two terminal anode and

cathode. If anode of diode is positive. to cathode the diode is forward bias. If anode

of diode is negative w.r.t cathode diode is set to be under reverse bias condition.

IR Sensor :

touchscreen phones and edge avoiding robots), contrast sensors (used in line

following robots) and obstruction counters/sensors (used for counting goods and in

burglar alarms) An IR sensor is a device that detects IR radiation falling on it.

Proximity sensors (used in are some applications involving IR sensors.

CIRCUIT DIAGRAM OF CAR PARKING SYSTEM
CHAPTER 4

IMPLEMENTATION AND TESTING

Microcontroller is used to controller the system, an LCD is used as a parking

gate entrance display ,6-8 IR sensors to detect presence or absence of car

and opening and closing of gate is done manually. When a car enters the

parking area, the IR sensor placed at parking area gives High output to the

microcontroller. Microcontroller gives an intelligent output to the LCD to

display the present state of the slots and to the motor driver. When all parking

locations are occupied i.e. the capacity becomes zero, the LCD gives a

output of “parking is full” and the parking gate closes completely.

CHAPTER 5

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

LCD gives output as “F” for already parked slot and “E” for empty slot and

the motor rotate in a direction so as to open the gate. As the car approaches

towards allocated slot, it passes through another photosensor arrangement,

which gives input to the microcontroller. After executing some code

microcontroller decrements the capacity and gives output to LCD. When a

car leaves the parking area microcontroller increments the capacity and

gives output to motor driver to open the gate

CHAPTER 6

CONCLUSION

At last we conclude that this project demonstrates an automatic parking system

which indicates directly which parking slot is vacant in any lane along with the total

parking capacity. This project can be used for parking system in any shopping mall,

multiplex. It can be used for industries, commercial, educational institute. This can

be expanded in sense of security by using Mata detector, RFID and using CCTV

cameras. We can add pick and place facility to park the cars automatically.
