CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM

Introduction

Banana is one of the pillars food of Filipinos since their early time. It was recorded

that the spread of banana word to the Pacific Island, includes Hawaii comes from our

country. Now, it is one of the most important fruit in the Philippine Cuisine. The high

demand for banana in the Filipino diet owing to its nutritive value and affordable price

compared to mango and pineapple in which it t is commonly used in processing banana

chips, catsup and jam.

The production of jam is a process being recommended for the preservation of our

seasonal fruits during their fruiting period. This research aimed to produce jam without

the combination of other fruits and to produce adding the flavor of cilantro leaves and the

important for the preparation are firm ripe fruits rich in sugar and acid as these contributes

towards the formation of good firm gel, these jam was produced using banana

The researchers are innovating the banana jam mix with cilantro leaves. The

researchers want to know the benefits of cilantro leaves when combined in the original

banana jam that others would do. The researchers want to innovate something new to

the taste of the people nowadays as most people do not want their jam/s to be very sweet.

The researchers innovate this food to change their favorite jam into something they would

want. Through this jam, the people will get be keen into as it also beneficial to them. The
researchers change some ingredients in the original jam, although the researchers

stabilize the taste it is not the same as the original banana jam.

Statement of the Problem

The primary inquiry of the study is to determine the Utilization and Acceptability

of Banana Jam Mixed with Cilantro Leaves of Grade 11 Home Economics Students.

Specifically, it will seek to answer the following questions:

1. What would be the effect of banana jam mixed with cilantro leaves than

the regular banana jam?

2. Would the students accept the taste of the banana jam mixed with cilantro

leaves?

3. Would the utilization of banana jam mixed with cilantro be approved?

We can see in the framework in the first box is the two main factors on how can people

can accept the product itself. In order to accept the product, the product must be low price

but in high quality, because the target people is the student and the minimum wage

earners. Then, it goes with what is the expectation of the customer on the product how

will the customer react with the product taste. On the second box, it will have the

satisfaction of the customer, if the first box is approve on the customer then it will proceed

with this in line with the last box. If the person satisfy in the product it will lead to customer

loyalty. In business, loyalty is most important because if you have these trait you will get

more investors and have partnership will small to large business or entrepreneurs.

In theoretical framework, the researchers achieve the best quality of the product. First

factor is the financial inputs. No one can start the business if the person is lack of money,

and she/he is unable to start the business he/she wants to do the near future. Second

factor is the behavioral inputs. No person can achieve the quality of the product if the

person have a mindset of I will do it tomorrow, just leave it there, no one can success in

the business industry if you have a mindset of that. Third factor is the suppliers and the

quality of the goods. This can affect the quality of the product if the good aren`t good for
making the product. The quality of the goods is very important in order to achieve the best

quality of the product. Fourth factor is the mental inputs. This includes on how the person’s

creativity work, creativity that make the people amaze on new things. And last factor will

be hardworking workers. For the researchers, this is the main reason why the product

have the best quality among other competitors.

Significance of the Study

The researchers used banana to produce jam as it has the cheapest but quality

high product in the market. A product bought from low price but quality high would give

lots of customer satisfaction on to buy them. Therefore, the researchers would like to

know the probability of Utilization and Acceptability of Banana Jam Mixed with Cilantro

Leaves. In addition, this study will be beneficial to the following:

Parents. The study will enable the parents to encourage their children to eat banana jam

without knowing it has cilantro leaves. It will be beneficial for a kid to eat them, as it is

high in nutrition.

Future Researchers. Most especially, the researchers believe that the study will be most

beneficial to the students who will also conduct research on the same field in the future.

All data gathered in this study can guide them on the Utilization and Acceptability of

Banana Jam Mixed with Cilantro Leaves.
