Introduction

The food service industry in the Philippines is booming due to the market trends

and urbanization. Increased work, schedules, schools makes people want to eat

outside. Every year people want ways on how to multitask efficiently making

convenient foods more marketable or popular. Also, different kinds and styles were

introduced profitable. The emergence of fast food is also in the trend. The business

proponents decided to establish a fast food kiosk with the concept of Chowrap. One

goal of the company is one of the collections of the Sustainable Development Goals

of the United Nations General Assembly in 2015, the goal is “zero hunger” in a small

way the company can help the world. The chosen target location is along the National

Hi-way Sto. Niño, Biñan, Laguna in front of University of Perpetual Help System

Laguna (UPSHL) JONELTA campus.

A rice meal is often eaten in a plate and utensils. Rice is a staple food in the

Philippines, an average Filipino gain energy in consuming a rice meal. Due to the

modernization, the adaptations from foreign lands, the lifestyle in the Philippines is

getting busier, convenient foods is gaining more attention. The concept of fixing a

complete meal in a wrap is much suitable here. It can give people a choice to eat

whether they are on the road or not. The possible threat to the business is because it

is new and the competition will be tight.

Marketing Aspect

Marketing is a system of business activities designed to plan, price, promote

and distribute want-satisfying goods and services to present and potential customers.
It is the strategic way on how to cope up to the needs and wants of the customers to
achieve their loyalty and patronage. The proponent of this business must have the
desired creativity so as to be able to provide quality service to its customers. This
aspect will cover the following: industry analysis, competitor analysis, market analysis,
market demand, supply, competitive position and marketing program.
The objective of the proposed project is to enchant the customers, not just by
meeting their expectation but rather exceeding and going extra mile. Moreover, it’s
about profitability. Every business is practically aspiring for productivity but practically
in order to last in the business world the first thing to take into consideration is the
target market. The customers will be the key factor to achieve the objectives of the
organization.
In every project, feasibility marketing aspect is the most important area
because it describes market situations. The fact if the proposed product will be
accepted by the target market is then a determining factor that this project can be
implementable. Our business will continually aim to improve our sales by continuous
research about the current trends and needs of the customers.

B. Other substitute products existing in the market

Substitute products are identical, similar, or comparable to another product, in the

eyes of the consumer. It provides choices and alternatives for consumers while
creating competition in the marketplace. The substitutes to our product are any to go
food and ready to eat meals that does not offer rice meal is our existing indirect
competitor. Minute Burger, & 7 eleven and other unknown businesses are seen along
the location. These products are the trend in today’s market because it is affordable,
satisfying and easy to carry which has similar characteristics to our product.

Marketing program

a) Marketing practices of the competitor

Well-known fast food chain/kiosk like Jollibee, McDonald’s, KFC, 7 Eleven, Minute
burger etc., have known their target audience very well. They made sure that the
product that they cater suits their target market. They determine what is the need,
wants and demand of the market. There are also variables they consider to market
their product:

 Price - They made sure that the price they are offering will satisfied the
product that the customer will buy. They also offering combo meals and
promotions that can also be affordable for the customers.
 Taste/Quality – the market wants to have a product that is affordable and
has a high quality as the same time. Our competitors made sure that the
product they are offering are in trend by adding products in their menu (i.e
milktea,iced coffee, pandesal sandwich etc)
 Fast Quality Service – our competitor offers a fast quality service because
the market today wants more a faster way to get their food. The faster the
service is, the more potential it has for the business to be penetrated by the
customers.

18
Republic of the Philippines
POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES
Office of the Vice President for Branches and Campuses
BIÑAN CAMPUS

 Place – The place is one of the keys to attract customers. The bigger, more
comfortable and better ambiance, the more customers will come to a
business.
 Promotion - Our competitors have done a lot of promotions since their
business are running within the number of years in the industry. They
promote in mass and personal. In mass, they advertise the product and
participate at big events. They also gain market through their own
customers because of interactive marketing and word of mouth.
Since majority of our competitors are well-known and expanded their
business in different places, they can now promote and advertise online
using their own websites, tv commercials and pay for an endorser

b) Packaging of the product

The competitors nowadays used paper products when it comes to

packaging. The reason is, it is easy to dispose and eco-friendly. Many of the
fast food chain today uses paper containers for take-out foods.

Our company came up with the idea of the primary packaging using
glassine paper. It will be the main cover or wrapper of the product. Glassine paper
is a food paper that has grease-resistant properties. Grease won’t seep and spread
across a sheet of glassine, which keeps food displays looking fresh longer.
Glassine is sealed with a sticker label that will indicate the flavor of the food that
the customer ordered.

Chowrap’s secondary packaging is a carton carrier that will bundle the

product with a drink. It made sure that the customer will not be having a hard time
consuming the product. It is innovatively designed as easy to carry, handle and
dispose so that it can contributed to the concept of eating the product anywhere.

commercial, magazine ad, or radio spot. Consumers are now finding new

products and services on the web, from social media campaigns. Promotion

keeps our product in the minds of the customer and helps stimulate demand

attention of consumers. The consumers can't buy products unless they know

what they are and where to get them.

Technical Aspect

A. Product Description

The business proponents combined two terms, first is chow which means food
or “to eat” and wrap which means “to cover something”. Therefore, the term Chowrap
is food in a wrap. The business name gives the identity of the product that is a food-
to-go. It also gives mystery on what will be the look of the product; This curiosity will
be an advantage for people will buy the product because of the name. The concept is
based on eating a typical Filipino meal which consists of rice and dish itself in one
wrap. Aside from that, we would like to emphasize that our product is an innovative
style of meal.

Republic of the Philippines
POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES

BIÑAN CAMPUS

The business also made the product creatively by choosing varieties of flavors
that consumers would experience for the first time. We are proposing five dishes which
are mainly adobowrap, ginilingwrap, tapawrap, and siomaiwrap. The Chowrap’s
dimension is length = 9cm, diameter = 5 cm, height = 4 cm. The drinks of Chowrap
are hot coffee/choco, iced tea and pineapple. The wrap that is being used to our
product is a plain and healthy egg wrapper. Also, it is designed the most efficient
secondary packaging for the product so that the customers can eat chowrap anytime,

anywhere.

B. Economic Use

The Chowrap is considered as a convenience good. The concept of

chowrap is for fast moving people who tend to multitask every time. Also, the
concept is to re-invent a new style of eating meals rather than the traditional
ones of using utensils and find a comfortable place to sit. Another use is that,
it will create jobs for the future expansions of the business. It will also help
demand for Filipino culture where in the foods presented are the most common
dishes in the Philippines.

Project Location

The project location must be accessible to all the customers, employees and
suppliers of Chowrap food kiosk. The chosen location is near the school which is the
University of Perpetual Help System (UPSHL) JONELTA campus located at UPH
Compound along Nat’l highway, Brgy. Sto. Niño, Biñan, Laguna.. According to
finduniversity.ph: “UPHSL is one of the top 10 universities found in Laguna. Among
the list UPSHL is the only one located in Biñan City where the Business owners plans
to build the store. UPSHL is the first University that is built in Biñan City.” According
to the observations made by the business proponents, the stores, photocopying shops
and computer shops that is found in front of UPSHL attracts more students. Thus,
making the location a good spot for business. Today, UPSHL caters not only college
students but also senior high students.

Waste Disposal

A. Kinds of waste to be disposed and volume

The business proponents aim for a business that produces less wastes. The
majority of the waste the proponents expects are volumes of egg shells. Since the
wrapper is made of eggshells it is most likely to appear as waste. The other waste
that the proponents are expecting are vegetable peels. Also, the waste that is also
expected is the used packaging of the product.

B. Waste disposal method to be adopted

The early years of the business waste disposal will revolve around
traditional waste disposal. Since the waste that is expected by the proponents are
food wastes. Traditional garbage bags will be used and coordination with the city
government on the pick-up of wastes will be crucial in the first years of the
company. In the progressing years of the company, the proponents will engage on
composting where in acquisition of a land is set. The strategy of the proponents is
to compost the food wastes since it is biodegradable and can be made as fertilizer,
this will also help the company on cutting the cost regarding on acquisition of
vegetable products. The opportunity in acquiring a land is to also expand the
headquarters facility.

C. Cost of waste disposal

During the field study conducted by the business proponents, waste is
usually collected by the City government for free. Commercial establishments
leave the trash along the highway and are collected between 6:00 am. – 7:00
am.
D. Potential other income from wastes
Companies in the Philippines engage in other forms of recycling. The
business proponents would engage in selling waste products to earn to reduce
waste and also earn income. plastic gallon of condiments are the focus of waste
reduction. the table below shows the break down of the income gained in selling
the wastes.
