Directions: Explain the analogy between a burger and paragraph structure.
(Paragraphs are like hamburgers. They have a top bun, juicy goodness in the
middle and a bottom bun).
Example of paragraph:

Dogs are good protectors. To begin,


they will watch when you are asleep. If a burglar
breaks in, you dog will bark to wake you. If the
burglar tries to attack, your dog will defend you.
Truly, a dog will always protect you.

D. Presenting Kinds of Paragraph

lesson Expository -An expository paragraph explains information. It may compare,
contrast, list, summarize or discuss different types of information.
Descriptive -When writing descriptively, engage as many of the five senses as
possible. Using vivid and vibrant vocabulary, a descriptive paragraph should
paint a mental picture of the person, object or situation, including the emotions
involved.
Narrative -A narrative paragraph helps tell a story. It should express the
chronology of a specific event and give enough information that the reader can
understand not only the order of the event but the entire event itself.
Persuasive -Persuasive paragraphs are intended to gain the reader's support
concerning a specific topic. They support your argument and draw the reader to
your conclusion.

1. Our school library is a very attractive place. The books are stcked in a neat row
on bookshelves arranged in parallel rows. The spaces between bookcases are
large enough to allow students to pass easily and go from one case to case. The
room is large, well ventilated and well lighted. The library is a popular place for
students.
2. We know that wood floats and iron sinks. This is not always true, however.
Our banca developed a leak and it sank. But generally a piece of wood will float
while a piece of iron will sink. Some wood float better than others. Any kind of
wood will, however, prove the point. The weight and the size also determine its
floating qualities.
What is the importance of studying paragraph structure?
